Saturday, Dec 6 2008 - Busy day...but sad day
View MSTEECHUR's food & exercise for this day
First off the busy part. Got up this morning and took my run to Starbucks. Roy drove in and met me. I can't wait until he can run again. I miss him as a running partner.
We sipped coffee and had breakfast cookies (Baker's) and then I ran home.
Our city's new dog park had its grand opening today, so we piled the boys into the car and took them to the dog park. Oh my gosh they had a blast! It's so cute to see them play. Dogs are the best. Too bad we all can't live like dogs.
When you play, play hard.
When you sleep, sleep hard.
When you're hungry, eat.
When you gotta go, go.
If you don't like something, growl.
If you do, wag.
Live with pure joy.
Love with a pure heart.
Forgive often.
Forget transgressions.
Be loyal.
As I type this Wiley is sleeping at my feet. Dash is snuggled on the couch next to Roy, and Murphy is on the ground at Roy's feet. It's good to be a dog, and a family with dogs.
After lunch I headed out for my massage. It felt so much better this time. Much less painful. She said that's because it's working, and I believe her.
We went to Lowes and got some temporary fencing for where Wiley escaped on Thursday.
Came home and had dinner and then walked out to the city's community holiday celebration. There's a small parade and a bonfire, then they light the lights on the water tower.
The sad part is, I got a call from my sister today. She has breast cancer. I'm just so sad about this. It's scary on two counts...she's my sister, and now it's in my family. So I have been having these "OMG I haven't had a mammo in two years" panic moments. We had a long talk. She'll have a mastectomy on December 18, which is ironically a year to the day after my surgery. Hopefully Christmas won't be too bad for her. I'm sure she'll be tired, but she's got a GREAT husband. He'll take good care of her.
I just hope this will be a scary time that we'll have many years to look back on and count our blessings. We didn't grow up together, but we've grown close over the years. We ran Grandma's marathon together this summer and it was wonderful. I told her she has to get better so we can run another marathon.
Sigh.
My life is so full of blessings...but sometimes you get a bit of a kick in the gut.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister, but she will be fine. I think there is something to the fact that her surgery is a year to the day after yours. Your surgery was hard but you are okay...I think she will be okay, too, especially since she has the support of her loving family.
