View NEXUSNRG's food & exercise for this day
On Wednesday January 13, 2010 I decided to make a serious change about my weight. It all started with a slow night at work which yielded a search for Jarrod the 'Subway guy.' I found out that when he started his 'Subway diet' he weighed the exact same as me, and wore the same size pants as me. On 01/13/2010 I weighed in at 425.4 Lbs. This is really where I'm starting off from.
When I signed up for CK (01/18/2010) it wouldn't allow me to make my start weigh-in on the 13th of January, only the 18th. I have already lost 6 Lbs. in 5 days, so my current weight as of 01/18/2010 is 419.4 Lbs. I managed this loss by basically following the same thing that Jarrod did for the better part of a year. He ate a 6" Turkey sub with baked chips and a diet drink for lunch, and a 12" Veggie Delight sub with baked chips and a diet drink for dinner. For the past 5 days I've pretty much stuck to the same routine, but with a few modifications. I've been throwing in some soups and fresh garden salad, and fresh raw fruits. Even though I'm not starving myself (meaning I'm not going hungry) I'm not consuming over 1300 calories a day either. After reading everything on CK today it would seem that if I'm not taking in at least 2000 calories a day I could be starving my body. So I plan to tweak my food intake some what over the next week or so to make sure that I don't create a problem for myself.
I've been using CK for the past week only for the food search feature to get nutrition information for the things I'm sticking in my mouth. However today I decided to investigate CK a bit closer and started to like what I saw, so I decided to take the plunge and signed up. I suspect that I'll maintain the account well past my 7 day trial period. I've started to learn a bit more about calorie intake and understand the need for about 2000 calories a day.
My initial goal when I first started this on Wednesday (1/13/2010) was to be down to 380-385 Lbs in 30 days. I still have that desire and goal but may modify it based on things I'm reading and learning on CK. My ultimate goal is to get below the 200 Lbs mark, and would like to be close to that by the end of this year. So CalorieKing, here I am, your newest, future success story in the rough.
Starting Weight (01/13/10): 425.4
This Entry Weight (01/18/10): 419.6
Weight goal in 30 days: 380-390

Seriously! And congrats on the 8 pounds! I'm on day 6, no movement on scale (well, it went UP a 1/2 pound
:laugh5: but that was day after I started so am ignoring), but trying trying trying to be patient (I _so_ very suck at that
:wink3: )
Thanks for all the responses - looking forward to following how you do!

That is why I keep trying to remind myself not to pay attention to the immediate effects, or lack there-of. The focus should remain on the overall goal. If it's a date specific one I try to just have a positive attitude and believe in my ability to reach it.
I've lost 8 Lbs since I started a limited calorie lifestyle which was 9 days ago. This afternoon when I woke up I hadn't lost anything from the previous day, but I'm not letting it depress me or bring me down. I only care about making 385 Lbs by February 13th. As long as I maintain my calorie intake where it's most effective then I should.
I guess some days or weeks are going to be better than others. At least WE'RE MAKING AN EFFORT! That's a million times better then where we were before starting.

Welcome and congrats on joining! I know I feel totally intimidated at the thought sometimes, but what is it that they say about success? 90% is showing up, right?
:wink2:
Best of luck on your journey. And yeah, TOTALLY wishing we could just follow a formula for when we reached our goal weight. I realized that I was _trying_ to follow a formula but when it wasn't working, I was giving up. So, need to find other ways to measure progress...

Yeah I spent 10 years in the internet field, I was a phone tech support guy for an ISP back in 1995 when the Web was just getting started, and spent 10 years going through the ranks up to tech support management and dsl installer right up to 2006. In the office they didn't care what your wore, or piercings or tattoos. As long as you were intelligent and could deal with people on the phone.
Then the ISP I worked for got bought out and I was laid off because the company who bought us was in Texas and didn't need us here. I took a job with the a local government and now I'm an employee of a fairly large city where I live, working for the Police Department. You can imagine septum and brow piercings wouldn't fly. I deal with the public face to face every day. I don't mind it though because I've changed, I'm not the same person I was way back when I got those piercings and things.

I'm a dork. I meant to say I wear a 12 g and wish I could be a 10 g. I tried once and it hurt way way too much.
I know what you mean about hiding piercings, the one on my tragus, no one minds here at work. The one in my septum however would be another story.
I used to work as a graphic designer and most of the places I worked for could care less. Then I went back to school after dealing with 10 years of fustration with the design field and advertising I went back and have a degree for Paralegal and Criminal Justice and work for the local government. I still do art shows on the side, way way more fun then having someone tell you what they want you to do.

Hey Leslie, thanks for the comment, I enjoy them all!!!
I was aware that by not eating you could cause your body to retain what it did take in as fat but I didn't know about the 'magic number' for calorie intake. I only started this past week to make the effort and I have lost a lot of weight but after reading a lot of stuff on CK I'm going to increase my intake some more. I was originally going to keep at around 1300 calories a day, but if 2000 is suppose to be the correct number for me at my size/age then I'm going to end up increasing that 1300 to 2000. I'm working on 1500 right now but the more I read about it the more I think I should go with the recommended allowance.
I'm pretty sure these people are gonna get my money. I've hit plateu's before and I try not to get too discouraged when I have a sudden jolt of weight loss and then I'll have several weeks of maintaining the same weight or will gain a pound, and then lose a pound. That's been my most frustrating moment, but right now I'm making positive headway so I try to keep focused on what I'm doing.
I agree with what you're saying on the less weight loss per week to allow the skin to bounce back. I want to prevent as much loose skin as possible in the future, thanks for the reminder on that because it's always good to hear it from other people too.
Actually the 10ga is larger than a 12ga. I had my septum pierced to a 12ga. I had thought of stretching it but never got around to it. I got that same problem about piercings (see occupation in my profile) and I had to lose the brow piercing but the septum is easy to hide with the retainer turned in my nose. You'd about have to go digging for hidden treasures to know it was there.
If you don't mind I'd like to add you as a friend on here.

I learned how important the calorie count thing when i got stuck at a plateu, come to find out I wasn't eating enough and my body thought I was starving. Which was pretty funny since I'm not a tiny person.
Having goals is a good thing but do not beat yourself up if you do not lose 7lbs or more a week. Losing weight is a good thing but doing it too fast can be a strain on your heart and also when you drop real fast it doesn't allow your skin a chance to snap back. I wanted to lose 10 lbs a month and sometimes when it didn'thappen in the past I would get so fustrated and break down and cry or just gave up.
I haven't been here on Calorie King for long but I think it's really supportive and I am glad I kept my account after the 7 day trial. The forums are great too!
I wish I could get to a 12 gauge! I've got a 10 that I wear sometimes. I have to be incognito since a septum piercing would be kinda looked down upon at my work. Stretching it to the 10 almost killed me. Did you have it pierced at 12? Or stretched it?

SWEET... Yeah that's a 12 gauge septum on that mug. I never got inked but I've had my brow and septum pierced. I'm not the freak I use to be though, that's for sure. I think self-consciousness got the better of me. I don't think I have anxiety disorders but I've become a 'hermit' for the most part these past 4 or 5 years. I'm not the social outgoing guy I use to be.
Anyhow funny you mention the WoW, because my job mainly evolves around the computer, so I'm constantly online, and doing something in front of a computer, and 4 years of a desk job resulted in gaining about 90 Lbs. That's because I'd stay at home and sleep or surf, and nothing else besides work. Starting this past week I'm making a change. I never could get into playing online games for long periods of time. I can play for 30 min to an hour and then have to stop for a while. I know about the addiction to them though. My nephew got a Wii for christmas 2 years ago and when ever he comes over he brings it and I've enjoyed the wii sports, golf, bowling, baseball...
I think I might be inclined to buy one and get the wii fit and try that because workouts don't tickle my fancy, but when it involves a gaming console it sparks my interest. So you gotta tell me how well that Wii is working out for you some time.

yay for cherry poppin!
:) It's the moving portion that is causing me problems. I am a big World of Warcraft player and it has caused me to become listless as of late. I can sit and play video games for hours and hours and that turned into lots of weight build up.
I know you can't tell by the my icon picture but I'm a retired body piercer (Seattle area) and avid tattoo collector. I think it's important for us "freaks" to stick together. DO NOT WORRY about the exercise portion yet..."yet" though means it will come. My eating habits aren't the main focus. I tend to eat well when not near my husband
I've given up WoW (it really was an addiction) and turned my PS2 into a Wii so that I can stand and play sports and still get that "gaming" fix. Oh it's been a battle!

Hiya Tara!!!
Thanks for the friend add, you popped my cherry. I now have a friend on CK and it didn't even take 48 hours. I'm always apt to give out motivational pep comments. I'll admit having someone else add me as a friend gives me motivation to stay with CK. I've never really had a huge support group so it's all new to me.
That's great that you saw a drop. I am forcing myself not to look at the scale but once a week. It's hard to do that though, because I really want to see that number drop, but know that in the middle of the week if I look at it and it hasn't or not as much as I want it to then I get discouraged. So I about have to pinch myself or kick something or do something just to stay off that scale. For me I figured weekly weigh-in's would be the best.
I've not worked out at all yet, and that right there is going to probably be my biggest challenge. I have absolutely no motivation because I work midnights, sleep during the day, and its always either raining, too cold, or too hot, or I'm too tired. It's always something, so consider yourself lucky if you've already found a niche for maintaining a workout routine. I'm still in the super-lazy mode. I'm working on the caloric intake deal to help me lose weight, so far so good but I know sooner or later I'll need to start regular exercise.
I wish you luck too... Won't it be wonderful when we're down to a weight where you won't feel embarrassed to be out in public, and can go shop for clothes where everyone else shops, and go to social events... I know I'm past eeady for that!!!

Popping over to say thanks for the words of encouragement. I definitely beat myself for the smallest things. It's something I'm really trying to work on. As a fat person I always guess I'd see more of a result quicker since I'm working at least twice as hard as everyone else and carrying around a lot more weight...
I did see a little drop today when I got on the scale so that make me happy. I too am eating a lot of Subway and finding it easy to stay under my calorie count. I was also putting down my physical activity but stopped because it was keeping under the 1580 calorie limit and I wasn't getting any green checks.
I'm going to friend you because I'm excited for the both of us and our endeavors! Good luck!
