NEXUSNRG's CalorieKing blog

Thursday, Jan 21 2010 - Learning to fly. . .

View NEXUSNRG's food & exercise for this day

A new day is at hand and I'm starting to learn more about how the body handles calories, and more importantly the proper way to consume and burn. I am starting to believe that I may of set my initial daily limit too low. CK seems to think so. Last night while at work, and after sitting down for about 3 hours straight I stood up to do something and I instantly became very lightheaded. That's never happened before, and the only thing I've done differently was go cold turkey on the sugary sodas, and cut my daily intake.

So I'm learning to fly, and I'm bound to have crash landings, I just hope my emergency procedures work right. The tingly hotheadedness feeling only lasted a minute or two, and wasn't enough for me to pass out but I did have to prop myself against a cabinet until it subsided. After that I was fine. I started out with only 1050-1200 calories a day, and since joining CK I've increased it to 1500. I really do think I'm going to bring it up to 1800-2000 a day starting by next week. Losing 7 lbs a week might be a little too much for me.

I have to say to myself that the over all goal is to be down to 270 by January so I'm in no rush to lose quickly, I only want consistent loss.

Sharing a photo I took of a Brown Pelican which resides in Biloxi, MS. I used a Canon EOS Ti1 with a 55-250mm IS Lens at about 200mm focal length. A larger version and more pictures can be found on my Flickr account which is linked from my profile on CK.

Thanks for the support and comments!!!! :y:

I had set 1200 calories a day before I started using CK which was a week before I joined. I've seen 8 LBS of total weight loss since the 13th of January 2010 now. But that was by staying strictly on eating two 6" turkey subway sub sandwiches with baked chips and diet drinks and or water and not much else for the day. I think it might not be the best thing for me.

When I came on CK and found out my daily should be 2000 just to lose weight so I was surprised. So I've started incorporating other foods into my daily diet to get it closer to that number. Still though I had set my limit to 1500 and I'm losing 1 Lbs every 24 hours. Because of the lightheadedness I experienced the other night I'm going to increase it to 1800 starting next week, I seriously doubt I'll have to force feed myself for that number heh...

1800 is still 200 calories below recommended for me, I would think I'd still maintain weight loss at that number and it not be too far from a healthy daily allowance.

Glad you guys like the photo, I'll be posting more.

I also started off at the amount they suggested and I dropped it down by 200 calories.
Going too low can sometimes hurt you more than help, but if you increase your intake I think you will be good to go.
I also love the pelican pic...
Take care!

I'm starting high like they suggest and if I do not lose what I want then I will go lower. It's better to start off high and then drop lower then start lower then go higher because then you might see a weight gain and that can be discouraging.

You do not want low blood sugar, that is not fun. I have diabetes so I've been getting low blood sugar since I have been doing a lot of excersice. I felt terrible so I had to increase my carb intake.

I'll check out your flikr account later. I have my stuff on my deviant art website. I might repost that as my link as I haven't added anything to my etsy account (for selling art) in a long time. I'll let you know when I do!!!! I cant remember my user name... i'm getting old.

Pelicans are my favorite birds ever!

When I started CK it said my calorie intake should be around 1880. I spent two weeks on it and then took the step to lower it to 1550. I kept force feeding myself to get up to 1880. I also stopped logging my physical activity because I was eating back the calories I was losing just to get that damn green check. 1550 seems to be working out pretty good right now so I'll probably stick to that for a while.

The nice thing about CK is it's not a "you must follow every step" sort of program. I'm learning more just from logging my food and staying in contact with people on the forums. I'm motivated because there are other people that have a large amount of weight to lose instead of feeling like I'm the only one.

Don't be afraid to tweak the program to work for you. Maybe go up to a higher calorie intake and then as a goal go 50 calories less a week for a few months and see how that goes.
