Friday, Jan 22 2010 - Running down a dream. . .

View NEXUSNRG's food & exercise for this day

I know, it's corny, I used a Tom Petty song lyric for my title, but in a way it kind of goes along with what this blog entry is all about.

Most of my teen and adult life I've always been over weight. And because of that I always limited myself on the physical activity I did. One thing I never did do was run or jog. I could run short distances but I never made an effort to do anything like run a mile or two miles. Well in the recent past, within a year or so I've had a dream where in my dream I was actually able to jog without difficulty but I was at my current size.

That was like one of the weirdest dreams I had. I can remember being at the mall where I live which is about 2 miles from my house, and some how I was left there without my car and I don't ever go anywhere without my car. So I had this anxious feeling of needing to go home right then, and just decided to start walking down the road toward my home. But something made me decide to break out into a jog. I can remember thinking to myself that I should be sucking wind and out of breath but wasn't, and the more I jogged the easier it became. I started feeling stronger and began jogging at a faster pace. Within a few minutes I made it to my house and that's pretty much where the dream ended.

I don't really know what the signifigance of that dream was, except to think that it's something I've never really been able to do because of my weight and would like to just be able to finally say I could run a mile and a half in 10 minutes or whatever the time limit is that the military sets for the mile and a half. To me being able to do that is a million miles away, but then again so is being less than 300 lbs.

I lost another pound yesterday (Jan 21, 2010), so I'm down to 417. A couple more pounds lower and I'll be the lowest I've been in 4 years straight. The picture is a photo I took of a little girl running along the Biloxi Beach back in 2005.

I'm not 100% sure but without interpretation I would say that in my mind I just really want to be able to do something I've never been able to do before. All through school whenever we had PE or something like that everyone would run but I never could. I had a doctor's excuse.

I don't remember a ton of mine but I always write them down. Dream interpretation relies on the feelings and emotions to the dream and what is going on in your life. Some of the symbolism you have to figure out.
I once dreamt that I was the female alien character from 3rd rock from the sun. I realized that the reason I dreampt that I was her is because in real life I saw her as a powerful person and at that time in my life I was feeling really weak.

Dreams are weird.

What were some of the things going on in your life at that time? Were you working on losing weight?

Nope, at that time in my life I wasn't concerned with losing weight, but I was (and have always been) unhappy with my weight.

You were feeling anxious at first, how did you feel when you were running? Free? Fast? Strong?

It's kind of hard to describe because the dream was so long ago it isn't very fresh in my memory, but I think the anxiety I was experiencing was a feeling of being followed and couldn't find my car and I don't know how I got to the mall. When I started jogging it was to just get home where I thought my car was, but as I progressed I felt as if someone was following me and I couldn't stop. Because of the fear of stopping and being caught I forced myself to keep running and never lost my breath or had pain, I just, ran.

Do you think your car vanished or did you have the feeling you were left behind?

See I'm not sure, I don't remember anything before the moment I was at the mall on foot. Don't recall why I was there or how I got there, but my car wasn't there and just felt I had to get out of there.

I very seldom remember any of my dreams.

Love the pic!

I have been into dream interpretation since I was a teen and took a class in Fruedian Psychology. I also took some in college. If you want I can give you what the classic interpertation would be and then you can just take it or leave it. I always find this stuff fascinating.

I try to interpret all my dreams. Honestly If you want to do your own dream, this is some of the questions you can ask yourself.

What were some of the things going on in your life at that time? Were you working on losing weight?

You were feeling anxious at first, how did you feel when you were running? Free? Fast? Strong?

Do you think your car vanished or did you have the feeling you were left behind?

Without knowing the answers to the questions, my thought on it would be that (this might be reaching) ...
If you were working on weight loss or were inspired by someone else losing weight... my thought is that you realized your car was gone i.e. sededary lifestyle. You were anxious about it because it is a big change for you to become active. You decided you really wanted to get home and that was your goal. Subconciously this can be seen as you changing your lifestyle and you are now pushing yourself towards it. You see yourself reaching your ultimate goal (not just reaching your house!) to be healthy and to be able to be active with no issues of beng weary.

This is just taking a stab at it. You break them down accorinding really to think what may have beenin your subconcious mind.

Years ago when I was in th 8 and 9th grade I used to run on a Cross Country team. We would run 2 to 3 miles at practice. I started gaining weight when i quit (not that I was ever really skinny to begin with though)

I can maybe jog if I have to use the bathroom or I am running for my life but other then that, bad idea. In October I thought it would be cool to force myself to run. So I did, with my mom's dog almost died. Took lotsa breaks. Then the next day I was hurting, my feet were tingly and burning and I started to freak out thinking neuropathy had set in (a diabetic nerve thing) and then I went and saw the doctor.

Yup, after taking an X-ray he found out I had stress fractures all over my feet. So no more jogging for me till I'm alot lot smaller. I'm not going to give up though!
