Monday, Feb 1 2010 - Bad hair day, good weight day. . .

View NEXUSNRG's food & exercise for this day

Today is a bad hair day for me, but that isn't as important as having a good weight day. I met my one-week goal, which was to be at 410 Lbs by today. Last Monday I was 420 and all through the week my weight fluctuated up and down, and I was beginning to get worried that I wouldn't make my goal today. This morning I woke up and weighed in and was 410!

I'm happy, yet hungry. Hungry for more loss. I really hate to toot my own horn or be too celebratory (is that a real word??? hmm?) but I just had to make a blog about this tiny little win. I would take the risk of jinxing it. I'm not going to do cartwheels or anything insane like that, but I will feed off this excitement to become more determined in my goals.

A little brief history here for the record.. January 2009 I weighed 455 and this was my highest weight to date. I didn't do anything about it. I had water retention so I went to see a doctor in April 2009 about the swelling in my feet. He prescribed me a water pill. We also talked about my weight, and my interest in losing it. I told him that I wanted to go back to the track and walk but I was concerned how strong my heart was. So he set up an appointment with a cardiologist. In May 2009 I saw the cardiologist and they did a stress test, EKG, ultrasound of the veins etcetera. Luckily everything turned out good. The cardiologist who incidentally looked like one of the members of The Bangles told me I was good to go for exercise. I thanked her and left. This is where it ended!

I didn't do anything. I was taking my water pill but didn't exercise, and I didn't change my eating habits either. I lost 'some' weight through the use of the pill which to date has only controlled the swelling but I still retain some fluid only not as bad. I lost some weight but I wasn't doing anything about the foods I ate. Then Thanksgiving and Christmas came and I put most of the weight I lost back on.

One night a few weeks ago I was just going through the Subway website to look for a sandwich to get and clicked on a link to read about Jared Fogle. I knew about him and what he accomplished but I didn't 'really know' what he did. Turned out when he started his subway diet he weighed the exact same as me, and wore the same size pants. I started to think that if he could do it I could do it. I decided to give his method a try. Less than a week from starting that I found CK, and joined to track my calories. I've since stopped eating only subway, and now only focus on calories, and it's working!

Weight history:
389 Lbs - September 2005
455 Lbs - January 2009
422 Lbs - June - Oct 2009
435 Lbs - December 2009
425 Lbs - 1st week Jan 2010 (started subway diet at this weight)
420 Lbs - 18 January 2010 CK Start Weight
410 Lbs - 01 February 2010 CK 2nd weigh-in (1st goal) (Lowest weight since 2005)

Thanks for the comment. Funny you mention the burger because I had one for dinner last night. I've resolved to only eating that once a week, that and steak only once a week and eating fish, chicken, or other things the next. So I stagger it rather then eat burgers and fries every day of the week like I use to.

I'm currently buying fresh ground beef or sirloin from Walmart which is 94/7 Extra Lean, so a 4 oz pattie is only about 150 calories. That's half the calories of a regular 80/20 burger. So that way I can still tolerate a bun, and fries. Sorry to hear about the half bun. Is there any kind of bread like whole wheat that you could have? Or what about a pita pocket? I've thought about buying some Kangaroo pita pockets to put fresh veggies in before, a burger would probably be good in one of those too.

The important thing is to look for 94/7 or something that says extra lean, trust me 150 calories for a 4oz burger is great! I mix some Lipton's onion soup mix in and it tastes awesome. And I'm only using Kraft or Borden fat-free american slices which are half the calories as regular cheese. Fat free mayo and a squirt of ketchup, I think the total cheeseburger is 335 calories. And then if you slap on a couple of fresh lettuce leafs and a nice slice of tomato you got a big burger for under 340 calories.

As of this morning (2/17/2010) I'm down to 405.6 lbs.

Congradulation on your weight lose:y:. I saw you post a comment on someone's blog about making homemade hamburgers and I really think I might them try that way; except I am a diabetic I can only have half the HB bun if i want those steak fries also. I was making them at home that way except for the cheese and the sirloin; I was using ground chuck and it was still higher in calories. I hope you have a great day.

I haven't had much progress. Things have progressively slowed down weight loss wise, without change in diet. Also been kind of busy with all this superbowl stuff. I hope to write again soon. I've got a friend who's going through a tough time too and I've been focusing a lot on them.

yeah been around computers a long time, been using linux a long time. I got my job because I exploited a security hole for everyone's password and reported it. I guess they figured it would be easier to hire me rather than deal with me. Always been into electronics, never was much for code but I do know html, I just like to deal with the physical side of things. Admit it you just wanna see me looking sexy in a cop uniform, a sexy cop who has a geek code. ;)

ah hah! so that's how you know about 2600 and such =D And yep, Eric gave me the hat himself. I used to be very big into the hacker scene but then we all got old and sold out and now we just stay in touch on facebook :wink2:

Very exciting about the goal of moving onto patrol - I look forward to seeing you achieve that!

Hi Karen,

Thanks for the kind words on my blog. I've been so busy this week that I haven't had a chance to write about anything yet. Some times no news is good news? Speaking of Jared, I bought his book recently, and it's a really great read. It's called, "Jared, the subway guy. Winning through losing: 13 lessons for turning your life around." I've gotten through half of the book in about a week and it's really insightful to his life and struggles with weight, and loss. I actually identified with him on several points. It's a great book for motivation and giving anyone help with any problem their facing. Bought it through amazon for 3 bucks + shipping.

Happy to know that some of my writing is motivation for you. I know several others on here who have been motivating me. Hope to see you on the forums, lots of great people there. Hope you make your goals!

Yeah I gathered that he seemed like a pretty good dude from what I was reading on there. I actually was down to 407.2 but I haven't logged it or weighed in on it. I'm just gonna wait until Monday to do my next weigh in.

Hey Abby! Thanks for adding me as a friend. Added you back. It's hard for me to do that because I believe in karma and I usually think that if I get too prideful it'll make me a bad person and come back to bite me in the a$$. But since you're giving me permission, I'll just say that I did lose another 2 lbs this morning. I'm now 408.2 woohoo!!! I know that it'll probably go back up over the week, but if I just lose 2 lbs by next Monday I'll call it positive progress.

These links people posted are great, added all of them to my bookmarks.

Toot it, baby! =D That is awesome about the 10 pounds. I think it's our enthusiasm and passion for succeeding that gets us through the tough times, so celebrate away, you have earned it! :rock1:

(Thanks for the links Tara & Leslie - checking them out!)

Cool thanks Leslie. I'll bookmark reshapethenation.com as well and check out the stuff that David did. I'm just astounded by what I saw on the link that Tara (Prncssgrl) had provided. That dude's transformation and documenting pictures of himself all along the way was incredible.

Freaking awesome!!!

I know you are thinner then he started, and I am thinner then he was too... but I saw this documentary about this guy on television, David Smith. He was 650lbs and worked and lost the weight. He really motivates me. He has a great blog too....

Tara, COOL! Thanks for the link, I'm definitely going to check it out because I'm real curious to see how others in a similar situation turned out. I guess if our bodies were one that would be a hella lot of weight lost in a month. heh.

Debbie thank you for the kind words. I agree the mini-goals help me stay focused. My next one is to be 400 Lbs by the 18th of Feb which is one month from the day I started on CK. Crossing my fingers. Even if I don't make it, I'll take whatever I get.

JIMMY!!!!!

Since January 1st we've lost a combined weight of 25 lbs!!!

Have you checked out www.344pounds.com? This guy Tyler blogs about going from 344lbs starting in Jan 2009 and getting down to 214 by Jan 2010. It's been an amazing transformation and is what helped me to see that change is possible. He puts everything out there for the entire world to see including weekly weigh in, food intake (calories included) and video shots of his physical changes. I think you'd really like to read about his journey.

410!!!! That's just downright fantastic!
