View NEXUSNRG's food & exercise for this day
I've been holding steady at the 399 Lbs mark for most of this week. This morning I went back to 402.4 Lbs but after sleeping it came back down to 399.4 Lbs. I have three days remaining until my official weekly weigh-in so I'm not too worried. Even if I don't lose any weight this week I'm not going to throw up my arms in disgust. As long as I keep doing what I've done this past month, and try to maintain as close to 1500 calories as I can and control my hunger with smart food choices I'll be fine. I am suppose to have A1C blood-work drawn in March (doctor wants to test me every 3 months) and they weigh me every time I come in. I can't wait to see his facial expression when he sees the scale dropped 25+ Lbs since December. Because the last time I was in there I know for a fact I was at least 425. REALLY looking forward to that. I'm also curious to know how my A1C will be affected by this change in diet as well. Last two tests had me at a 5.75 and 6. He gave me some metformin to take for a while to see if that would help. Right now 1/2 of a 500mg pill a day, but I hope he'll take me off that soon. I think that was one of the driving factors in my decision to do this weight loss journey. I despise being on weight related medication. I feel embarrassed to be on it.
I was just going to get one of those home-A1C kits but since insurance has been covering my blood-work and visits I'm fine with just doing it at the doctor's office for now. Still pissed off that BCBS has refused to pay for my cardio stress test! Anyhow on to happier thoughts. I think I'm going to reward myself with a new book for the weight loss achieved. I finished Jared: The Subway Guy a couple of weeks ago and found myself not wanting the book to end. I really enjoyed reading about Jared's experiences with college, fighting with weight, and the ultimate loss of 245 lbs in 11 months. After reading it I found myself wanting to meet him and just say thanks for being an inspiration.
So I've decided I'm going to go to Barnes & Noble or order from Amazon, FAST FOOD NATION, by Eric Schlosser. Speaking of Fast Food, I've taken notice today that I have not been through a drive-thru in three months. The last time I had something from McDonald's or Hardees was back in December. And you know the best thing? I DON'T MISS IT! I've had absolutely no desire to go to McD's for fries, or Hardees for a thickburger. NONE! My determination to lose this weight is pretty strong. Today's picture was inspired by fast food, Morgan Spurlock's SUPER SIZE ME documovie. I really enjoyed it, and need to watch it again just for added support to say no to fast-food. I really like his fresh and non-invasive approach to the issue in that movie. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Go to HULU.COM and watch it for free or go rent it.
After I'm done reading Fast Food Nation I'll give a little review of how I liked it. If I don't go out today and get it I'll probably go tomorrow or Saturday. 30 Miles one way is a bit of a drive to pick up a book. But I will be getting it this week.
*EDIT* Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million wanted like 25 dollars for the book without a membership, so I said screw that and went to amazon.com and ordered it 15 minutes ago for $10.19. I'll have it here on Tuesday (March 2nd). So much for supporting the local economy.
***EDIT SOME MORE***
Doesn't it ever bug you how a commercial's music just sticks in your head??? Well lately mine seems to be the music for the New 2011 KIA Sorento. The song is called "How you like me now" by a group called The Heavy. I use to own one of those sock muppet monkeys when I was a child too. The commercial is addictive, and the song just makes me wanna jam! I love good blues. Anyone have that same feeling when ever the commercial comes on TV? You can hear the whole song here on youtube: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVzvRsl4rEM)

Half.com is a great place to get books for a good price. Fast Food Nation was GREAT! I also liked The End of Overeating.

I guess I still reign supreme in the oddness of ketchup on steak. lol! CK told me 2000 was my target but I wanted to challenge myself and make it a little lower. And I'm shocked that I actually manage 1500 rather easily. Looking back the past couple of months on my diary will prove that. I can only count on one hand the number of times I went over 1500.
I guess you don't catch the forums too much lol.. I actually watched FOOD INC last night on netflix and then started a thread in the member chat section about it and another documentary on how fast food and junk food is becoming the new killer, last check it had over 21 comments. I titled it Killer at large. YES Food Inc was a serious eye opener. I'm going to read fast food nation, and then rent the movie based on it, also called fast food nation.
Morgan's experiment was brilliant, he's way better at approaching issues than someone like Michael Moore. I like how he used himself as the test subject. He didn't just go demanding answers from the corporates. He spent an entire month consuming nothing but McDonald's and tracked his physiology as it progressed. The results were sobering.
Yes people do actually do that. I had a friend who at one time was a manager for a McDonald's because well, he's a loser and refuses to higher his status in life. Anyhow he spent 3 years with them before quitting and during that entire time he didn't bother buying food, or cooking food. McDonald's gave him free food to take home every night so that's what he did. He ate mcd's and drank Heineken.
Every time I see the 5 dollar foot long commercial I can't help but think really dirty dirty thoughts. heh glad I don't see it that much anymore. Thanks for the comment Deirdre!

No ketchup on steak per say, but cheesesteaks for sure. I also like to put it on Mac N Cheese...which many people think is weird.
:$ It is delicious.
:music2:5 dolla---5dolla---5 dolla foot looooooong.
:music2:*Damn the damn jingle.
:wave1:
Good job for sticking to 1500 cals. That is a HARD task.
you should check out the movie Food Inc too. Super size me is good---but I feel like it only concentrates on someone who eats McD's everyday---which do people really do that?

Vanessa I'll let you know how the book turns out but based solely on the customer reviews I'd say get it because 1440 people can't be wrong with an avg 4.5 stars out of 5. Amazon has the best price.
Sucks you had a bad day Tara but glad to hear you're coming out of it. It creeps me out too to see adult sized child's toys interacting with humans and driving an SUV or whatever. Kia's marketing department knows what works though because the song is catchy and the commercial is well unique. I much rather like the kia commercial over the stupid huggies potty dance commercial. Sounds like they ripped off a rift from INXS for the song.

Thanks jimmy for your post over on my blog. I was in such a funk. Not so much funked out today so I think I'm on the upswing. I love the sock monkey commercials..however they have caused me to have a slight twinge when they come on. Something about a grown up sock monkey that freaks me out lol.

Well if he's truely blowing you off then I guess it's his loss. But patience is a virtue, one often hard to achieve. Still though, maybe he'll come around in a day or so. If not, well you seem to have a rather large supply of men to choose from. I think Morgan is hella talented and his wife is uber hot! Sadly FOX has decided not to renew for a 4th Season so it doesn't look like 30 Days is coming back any time soon, at least not with FOX. You may be stalling out but you look great in your clothes so that must account for something!

30 days is a great show, I hope that it comes back! Morgan is so talented. Ah, so you are already aware of the ore ida fries, awesome. I didn't have as much to lose as you do but I've been stalled out sometimes for years. As long as you keep your calories low you will lose. I rarely ever exercise because of asthma or timing and I still lose weight. I was single for 2 years before I began dating. So far only 1 boyfriend in 5 years, I was being hella picky as we say here in the bay area.

Well if it isn't the super woman of dating...
:cross2:
Thanks for coming over to read. I enjoy reading your blog, even though I myself have been date-less, woman-less for over 4 years now, (another story, another time.)
I'm trying not to let little stalls get to me, the last one happened 3 weeks ago and I got depressed, didn't post in the forum, didn't write in my blog, I just kept to myself and logged. It went away and things are back on track. I do make fast food type stuff at home. I love burgers, no doubt and refuse to give it up, but I have made compromise for the sake of calorie counting. I now use fresh lean ground beef (94/7) at 160 cals for a 4 oz burger I can't complain. I use fat-free cheese, and light mayo. And usually I have a portion of Ore-Ida steak fries (7 large fries) baked in the oven (no longer deep fry anything) with some salt, and that whole plate for under 500 calories fills me up.
I usually will add seasoning or lipton's onion soup mix to the beef to give it more flavor. So I'm doing this once a week now. I use to eat burgers every other day, but found it works better with my diet to have it once a week, so it helps with that craving. I love Super Size me, and his 30 Days show. I was shocked at how he ended up at the end too.
Thanks for reading and commenting Aaras!

Hey! It's my first time over here. Nice to meet you. It is good not to just throw up your arms when you don't lose for a week. Some of us have platuead for months. Have you made any fast food style stuff at home? It is good for cravings. I use morningstar grillers which are yummy and slightly meat flavored. Plus ore ida has fast food fries which you put in the oven and they are way better on cals. I love the documentary super size me, I own it and have watched it many times. I was so shocked at what a difference there was for him in 30 days.

Leslie I'll be sure and let you know what I think of the book. I already have a feeling I'm going to like it seeing how I liked Morgan Spurlock's Supersize Me. I already knew bad things about the industry but I feel I'm about to learn a whole lot more. Amazon's customer rating, 4 1/2 stars from 1,440 customers. I'd say it's a winner for sure!
We use to have several Hardee's here but they have cut back a lot. There's still one about 1 mile from my home and I would go there and get a thickburger when I really wanted a good burger. I don't care much for anything else on their menu. I certainly don't claim to be perfect and I'm not trying to eat clean or organic, but having some positive self-control for once is a great feeling. One other thing I use to do is stop at SONIC every night when going to work and order a Route 44 Slush. Major sugar!!!! I mean EVERY NIGHT! I was there so much they already knew what I wanted before I'd even push the button. I haven't been there in almost 2 months, they gotta wonder what happened to me.
I never heard of either of the places you mentioned, so I wouldn't know. We have Hardees, Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King, Sonic, Backyard Burger, Krystal's, Checker's, Taco Bell, and Arby's. That's about all I can think of that we have as fast food chains here.
You can buy the A1C self-test kit from Walgreen's for one. They sell the A1CNow by Bayer. go to walgreens.com and just type in a1c in their search box and it'll pop up. My local one has them in stock for $24.99. Sorry to hear about your issues with blood sugar, and I hope you can get off that mess soon.

Let me know waht you thought of Fast food nation for sure.
OMG Hardees?? They do not have any of those around me... god those were yummy. I have been going less and less to fast food resturants since a year ago. I was trying to eat Clean and organic. Yeah I am not perfect and I eat differently here and there. Everynow and then I grab a Schoops (I think that is a local eatery chain, AMAZING hamburgers) or Culver's Butterburgers (do you have one of those?). In the past year I have had 1 steak and shake, shake... and I was in the past drinking 1 every week. Good lord. To think of the things I used to consume is amazing.
A1C test?? For home??? Where? I haven't had one in ages... I was kind of scared. My blood sugar was really really bad last year. I've gotten better. I take metformin, glipizide and a shot at night because I get high blood sugar in the morning. While mine is still fat related I know I can fix this. Many of my family members (heavy and non-heavy) are diabetic type 2... ugh so it's partially genetics for me.
