NEXUSNRG's CalorieKing blog

Tuesday, Mar 2 2010 - What's your anchor?

View NEXUSNRG's food & exercise for this day

CK Has become my anchor in this sea of decadence. This bombardment of bad food and drinks. I've been here now since the middle of January and I'm no longer in the 400's thank God, and thank Calorie King! This place has given me the tools and has sustained my motivation to keep doing what I have been doing to lose weight. Yesterday (Monday) was my weekly weigh-in day, and I came in at 398.0 Lbs. Today when I woke up I dropped 2 Lbs more and am now 396.2 Lbs. Based on what I've seen in the past, I know that number is going to bounce up and down all week long. No big deal. The best part about this is, I'm finding it so easy to do. I'm never hungry, the foods I eat are tasty and good for me, and for the most part low-cal or the portion control makes it low-cal. That's making it easy for me to continue and I have no thoughts of giving in or up.

I've joined the March Green Check Challenge, and expect to get 31 green checks this month. If I do, I'm buying me a Nintendo Wii. It's a strange reward because I have the money to buy one, or 50 of them right now, but something has been keeping me from doing it. I guess I'm afraid I'll buy it and not like using it because it's so physical, and then it would be a waste of money. But if I complete the challenge 100% I'll buy one no if-and's or butts.

Yesterday's dinner was so good I did a repeat of it today for lunch, and I took a photo of my meal. What you see here is a recipe from Mrs. Dash for a no-salt Baked Salmon fillet with pineapple salsa. OMG that was so good! The salmon dish is only 190 calories, 54 mg of sodium for a 4 oz fillet. I added two sides to my meal, a 1/2 of a baked potato with 1 pat of real unsalted butter, and some baked potato dry toppings. And broiled some mixed vegetables with olive oil, salt & fresh black pepper. I have asparagus spears, wedges of onions, and red, yellow & green bell peppers, and yellow squash. Total calories: 423! Or 387 calories if you deduct the pat of butter from the baked potato.

The recipe & nutritional values for the salsa is on Mrs. Dash's website, its Baked Salmon with pineapple salsa. And you can look at my diary to see the calories for everything.

I keep my protein on the higher end of the chart, and usually have my carbs and fat right in the middle of their recommended percentages. I time my meals for my personal past experiences when I usually get hungry and try to have them then. And I eat low enough calories that I leave enough room for snacks in between meals, and usually eat stuff like pineapples, bananas, and stuff like that will fill up my belly.

Sure thing on the wii.

Minha Glad you liked it. I'm happy I found it because I'll be eating more salmon like that. Everyone thanks for the comments its nice to have these posts in my blog!!!!

"CK Has become my anchor in this sea of decadence."

Ditto! Although, I must say that your meal looks quite decadent to me! Funny how our views on what is and what isn't decadent changes so drastically in such a short period of time.

Congrats on your success!

Jim! Good for you! Its amazing how eating 'Real Food' makes you feel like youve eaten and feel satisfied. Ive been reading 'In Defense of Food' by Michael Pollan and he says the reason we keep going back for more/seconds/junk food is that our body is searching for certain nutrients, like a craving it cant fill. BUT eating really food, fruit veggies, and quality meats like you have up in that picture gives your body the nutrients its looking for, and that switchs off the 'Im still hungry, even though Im full' thing. Im so glad youve found eating healthy works for you!

Welcome to my blog KW, thank you for noticing I dropped below 400, It's great to finally start moving through the 300's. I wish I could say I have gone where no one has gone before, but I've been here before. I do plan on going where I've never gone before which is a healthy and not fat adult Jimmy.

Oh and welcome to Minha too. It's nice to see other people reading my blog. OMG It is delicious! Yes give this one a try, if you like the flavor of pineapple, it really gives the salmon a kick. Same to you Leslie, if you like pineapple it'll really give the fish a sweet tang. It's not gross at all.
