Something I have never really openly talked about or confessed is that I've been labeled a type II pre-diabetic. I was put on 500mg of Metformin once a day back in May of 2009 to try to control the sugars. My blood glucose use to be in the 80's and 90's I guess about 4 or 5 years ago. But in the past year or so I've seen fasting numbers ranging from 145 to 255 and everything in between. Usually staying in the 160-170ml numbers fasting. Well the doctor did a full bloodwork on me and my A1C was a 6.5. Even though the A1C was in normal high range he still prescribed the metformin.

Well today just out of curiosity I took a reading, maybe an hour after eating a large meal and my blood glucose was 115ml. 115! I haven't seen a number that low in over 2 years. Even with the metformin my fasting numbers were still in the 140-150's and higher after eating. A couple of things that are different is this week I completed Silver and moved to Gold meaning I've lost 10% body weight since starting, so that might have something to do with it. Another thing is recently I've begun to ween myself from starches like potatoes, rice, pasta, corn and so on.

What I'm doing is one day of the week I'll allow myself to have a meal with those items, but the rest of the week I'll stay away from them as much as possible. Another thing I'm starting to do is set aside one day of the week to eat more salad with smaller portions of meat etc. Eventually I'll want to increase that to two days a week. But baby steps for now. I want to get my mind and body use to eating more veggies and salads.

(When I am super awesome at it, I'll be like my friend and post videos on youtube...lol)

I'm diabetic I hear ya! My blood sugar was really bad though :$ When I was diagnosed I was almost put in the hospital... I was 600. :afraid4: Last year I couldn't get my blood sugar below 200 to save my life AND I was on Metformin, Glipzide AND Lantus (shot at night!)

It's amazing the things weight loss can do and help with. I'm off of all my meds and my blood sugar is usually 90 and under now!!!

awwww thanks Sheetal! I had no idea I was missed. You got me on facebook girl :P

yeah I was totally shocked when I saw that number. I was expecting something in the 150's especially that I had just ate a sloppy joe and a pb&j sandwich not even 2 hours before hand. I'm hoping the sudden drop in weight helped because I really want to get off these drugs and get back to no longer being pre-diabetic or anything.

One of these days I hope to be able to limit my junk intake to just one day a week or less. Right now it starts by making 1 day out of the week a super clean eating.

I missed you Jimmy. Thanks for what you wrote on my blog

Congrats on the glucose readings! That's a serious drop. I like your plan to get more veggies in - I did something several months ago. And remarkably, now I crave veggies!
