Thursday, Jul 29 2010 - So how you like me now?
View NEXUSNRG's food & exercise for this day
I just took my blood glucose a little bit ago. I ate some watermelon maybe 1/2 an hour before that, and I had lunch 3 hours prior to it. I was just curious to see what it would be, not at fasting. I have been off of metformin for 4 solid days now. Last dose was on Saturday. I am really, really pleased with this number.
108 mg/dL!
I certainly did not expect that. I figured maybe the 10% fat loss wasn't the reason why my numbers had been low these past 2 weeks. I thought maybe I was just catching my reading at the right time and that the metformin was doing it's job. But now it's been out of my system for at least 3 days, I feel more confident that the 10% loss since joining has a direct effect. I haven't seen numbers this low in over 3 years.
Tonight was a grilled 5 oz fillet of sockeye salmon with some Mrs. Dash lemon-pepper seasoning with paprika topped with a lemon slice. Made a fresh low-cal crab cake to compliment the salmon. Picked up a quart bowl of fresh pulled blue crab meat and used 45cal whole wheat bread and 1 egg, fat-free mayo etc. and finished it off with 8 asparagus spears sprinkled with olive oil, pepper, and salt substitute roasted on the grill. Just finished it with a bottle of water and I'm good to go!
Going to go crash now, I have to be at work in 3 1/2 hours and I've only had 2 hours of sleep today. This so sucks.

Wow! Jimmy, that's AWESOME. I am just starting my weight loss journey, again, and I can't wait until I start seeing those types of numbers again. And without metformin! Woot!

Jimmy, that was a great picture. I have been seeing numbers like that myself. I take insulin at bedtime and have been able to drop 6 units and the diabetic pill I took in morning I have been off 4 days now. Still great readings. I have been on insulin for 4 years and diabetic meds for about 10 years so this is a big plus. Sounds like you are heading in the right direction with your reading.
 I've had to record numbers and take to dr., of course along with bloods tests to monitor. I've had some lows and don't like that so testing more often is now a must. I'm having crabs this weekend so can't wait to make crab cakes. Awesome accomplishment

Jimmy my doctor has me on metformin as a preventative measure because my mom and her dad both have/had type 2. My genecologist told me that there is more and more evidence that the preventative measures work. I have mixed emotions about being on it, but want to trust that it will keep me from getting it. Sure it may have something to do with diet, but I also believe in heredity and what's in my genes.

That's awesome encouragement because one of the main motivations I have on here was to be off of any of these pills I've been forced to take.
I feel like a loser in life having to depend on a medication, and I still haven't accepted the label of diabetic. So I'm fighting to reverse it before it becomes worse. Glad to know you've been successful in it, so that gives me hope for my own situation.

Dinner sounds yummy... I'll be over in 13 hrs. (no crab though, I'm allergic)
Blood sugar numbers are GREAT Jimmy!!! When I started my journey I couldn't seem to get under 280 and even when I did get it down I couldn't get under 200 no matter what I did. Now I range from 70-95 AND I am off all my meds!
Keep rocking it out!

Thanks Natalie. It was so delish! Since it's Friday fish day I'm having it again tonight for dinner. It was easy to prepare and cook too. I bought 1 lb of sockeye salmon. After tonight's meal I'll probably freeze the rest of it for later.
Debbie I'm pretty sure mine is going to be thrilled too. My last two A1C's were about the same so I hadn't improved on it at all. I'm due for another blood draw in October and I hope these daily numbers stay the same so it'll show a decent drop in the A1C.
My last two A1C's were 7.5, and my blood glucose was fluctuating anywhere from 144 to 200 but I only had a couple of readings in the 200 zone. Mostly it stayed in the 150-170 range and that was with metformin. And now 10% weight loss and no metformin and being a 'random' test of 108 is awesome! I'm actually more excited about that than the 60 lbs weight loss. lol!

I was wondering what happened to you. It's okay because I took one too. I'm sure eventually I'll get back into a rut where all I do is log and nothing else. I'm happy you popped back on and found me posting though.
126 lbs that's a lot of flubber. We'd have enough between us to make an adult female or very skinny dude. lol.

Figures I take a short hiatus from CK and you start blogging every damn day!!!!!
Sorry I've missed out on all the goings on with you Jimmy. I can't tell you how happy I am to see you breaking through and reaching the 360's. Between the two of us we've lost 126 pounds! Can you believe that????
