NIKKI8's CalorieKing blog

Thursday, May 24 2007 - BFL Week 9 Day 5

View NIKKI8's food & exercise for this day

Awful day today. Not gonna use my blog format today.

Potty training is still going well :y: but we have not gone anywhere in 2 days.

I spent the morning cleaning and playing with the boys. Then I spent the entire afternoon making tamales.
I can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but my husband asked me to make them once I finished school. They take 2 days to make and are very time consuming even though they are relatively easy to make.
Well, in spite of a fussy baby who really wanted to be held, I got the tamales assembled and then started them steaming much later in the evening than I wanted.
All for nothing. They do not taste the way they should. :angry2: GRRR! All that work for nothing.

And I did not exercise because I was busy doing all that. :bang: I hate when I don't exercise.
I didn't log and I ate poorly.
I'm mad at myself for that, but I'm more upset that all that effort and time was wasted. I just want to cry. :cry2:
My husband was so excited that I was making them and told everyone at his work that he was bringing tamales tomorrow. Now he doesn't even know if he wants to bring them because they just taste so bland. Waaaah! :cry3:

I have a bunch of meat left over and I'm thinking of making another batch of masa tomorrow with a different recipe. I used a version of this recipe last year and they turned out really good.

Okay, I think I'm done whining about that.

I'm seriously thinking of talking a break from logging for a while. Maybe I'll try to not log for a week and change my focus to eating healthy foods. The thought scares me and fills me with anxiety. That tells me a lot right there.
But if I focus on getting portions of fruit, vegetables and protein in, (and fiber) and make that my goal, maybe I will do better. That's the way you are supposed to do BFL anyway. He does not recommend calorie counting.
I'm still trying to figure this out.
We'll see.

Sorry you are disappointed with the outcome of your tamale efforts! It sounds like you really worked hard! I hope the next ones are better. We haven't even talked about starting to PT with Maser! I just don't want to deal with that right now! :$ Not logging may be just the answer for you. :y:

I'm also saluting you for even attempting tamales. I've never dared. Today is a new day. I trust it will go better!

I am so impressed that you even attempted to make tamales with a baby in the house. I had a similar, but not nearly as time consuming, recipe distaster involving popovers. The popovers were served (bland taste and all) at a dinner party we hosted this New Year's Eve. I understand your being bummed and frustrated. I hope you will let it go though, I am sure your husband appreciates your effort. :)
