Monday, Mar 17 2008 - The Flue?!

View NIKKI8's food & exercise for this day

I woke up in the middle of the night last night and could hardly swallow, my throat was so sore. I looked at it with a flashlight in the mirror and saw all these white sores on my throat. :afraid2: Great. I also had a low-grade fever, ears hurt and my nose was running. Oh, and the body aches. That, I always think, is the worse part.
So after dropping Collin off at school, I took Carter with me and went to the walk-in clinic (I still don't have a gen. phys. yet).
Luckily, it didn't take as long as I feared being Monday and all, although Carter was not happy about this little trip. The doctor thinks it's the flu. I was thinking strep throat, but he didn't think so. I don't know why, though and he didn't do a test. But he did prescribe an antibiotic, to cover the bases and make sure it doesn't turn into anything worse.
He also said this is a nasty strain of flu that can last up to 5-6 weeks :bigeyes3: with a multitude of symptoms. Oh fun.
So I'm thinking, when Collin and I got sick about 2 weeks ago, it hit me in the stomach, hit Collin in the stomach and with fever/cold symptoms. Carter now has a cough, runny nose. So I think it is the flu and it is just going in different stages at different times for each of us.
And I know several other people with this same crud too. All at the different stages of symptoms. The doc got onto me for not getting a flu shot and then told me he and his wife both had this for 5-6 weeks. Okay, obviously the flu shot did not do them any good. Plus my mom and my MIL both had flu shots and are miserable with this same thing.
I will plan on getting it next year anyway though. Especially for my kids. :angel4:
So after I got Collin from school, I just rested on the couch until the tylenol kicked in and I felt strength enough to do something.

House is a mess. I will not be doing any exercise when I feel this sick. And both of those things steal peace from me. I just feel out of control in my life right now.
And my husband is still being weird. I don't know what his problem is. I just don't like him very much these days. (well, the last 2 days anyway.) :frog:

This year's flu shot didn't include the strain that is going around this year. But you and the kids should both get a flu shot for sure. Men are weird my dear -- there's no explaining them whatsoever.

(((HUG))) I hope you feel better! I sure hope it doesn't last 5-6 weeks! :bigeyes3: I heard that the flu shot wasn't helping a whole lot this year. Tell that husband of yours that you are sick and it is his job to take care of you and the kids so he better come home with chicken soup and spend some time cleaning up the house! (good luck with that, by the way. nurturing isn't always a man's strong suit! :laugh5: )

I am sorry to hear you are still sick. The flu strain this year is really bad! I was at the doc for blood tests in Jan and he told me at that time he was seeing 30 to 35 patients per day and almost all were people with the flu! :afraid2:

I am sorry you aren't feeling well. Rest up and take care Nikki. You don't want to push yourself when you aren't feeling so good! Sorry about not liking the hubby right now. That happens unfortunately but your positive and good feelings for him will return! :angel4:
