View NIKKI8's food & exercise for this day
Woo Hoo!! I beat last week's time. I did 31:15. I'm pretty happy about that.

Last week's time was 34:46. But I really think last week's course was longer than 5k. Many people remarked about that last week and comparing this week's course, I have to think they are right.
Plus last week I had more hills, much more wind resistance and of course, sleet pelting me in the face.
But I didn't do any training runs this week at all. And I think it really showed. There were moments it was really tough and I wondered why in the world am I doing this. There was one hill and it was a killer (for me at least). My HR was screaming in the mid 190's!!!

I kept telling myself it would be better once I was over the hill but my hr never got out of 180s until the race was over.
My running partner finished in 26 mins and was first in our age group. So she's definitely faster than me. This was a pretty small race, but it was fun. It was on old Route 66 and there was a car show afterwards that my husband was going to show our car in, but he had to work.
In the beginning I was intimidated by all the fast runners. Last week's race was more casual with lots of walkers, but I just kept reminding myself that my goal was to run the whole way, regarless of anyone else or of time. But I am really pleased my time improved.
My friend's husband watched the kids while we ran as they have 2 kids the same age. So that worked out well.
My husband should be home soon and we are going to work on the back yard. I don't mean to give him "tests" but I want to see if he asks me about the race (since he didn't last week).
He has been nice to me and affectionate so hopefully he has learned his lesson and will show interest in my life. We'll see.

WTG on your race! I'm so glad you've stuck with it and that you didn't let not having anyone to watch the kids stop you from going. I've thought of doing a few 5ks, but in the end I always decide it's too much hassle. I'm proud of you for doing it!
=D It sounds like you had a good talk with Ashli. I hope Chris can break the cycle and keep treating you well. You deserve it!

holy high heart rate!! I've never seen mine over 185!! but
:rock1: WOO HOO on beating your time! I hope hubby asks about it
:look: My run today was just a regular old long run ... I may be training for a marathon on May 31. Or I may be training for the marathon and only running the half marathon. Because 8 weeks (I'm at the end of week 2) of prepping for 26.2 may not be enough for me. But I might try to run it anyway? I haven't decided
=D Okay, have you tried every diet soda there is? Because there has to be ONE that you find palatable ... Diet soda has come a long way, and it's THE easiest food swap that exists. You've tried diet Slice and Sprite Zero?? I admit that I like a bunch of diet sodas, but Coke Zero is something that really doesn't seem to have an aftertaste ... We gotta be able to find something you like in diet!!

You did a great job! And glad to hear hubby is behaving. I didn't want to have to come whack him up the side of the head!

Wow, Nikki! You didn't just beat your time, you beat it by a lot!! Just look the other way and don't even think about if or if not last week's course was longer than 5K. just bask in your excitement and be proud of yourself today! You had a great goal - to just run the whole way. My goal, in races is always to not pressure myself, to not compare myself with others, and to just let myself enjoy it - somehow, I always end up able to run the whole way and in a time I'm proud of when that is my goal. I think you should definitely give your husband the test of if he asks you about the race, especially given that you mentioned the fact that he didn't ask you last week! HE should be aware this week that asking you about the race would be a considerate thing to do and, therefore, he should do it. I'm glad he's been nice and affectioniate to you this week - keep holding him to that same high expectation.
