Yesterday I rode my bike with the kids in the bike trailer for 12 miles. My friend who is doing the triathlon with me went too with her two kids in their trailer.
Now, the thing is, my friend is in as good of shape as I am. She is planning on doing all 3 events, where I am only doing 2. She is an excellent swimmer and that is where her strength is. I suck at swimming. In fact, last year we did the tri as a team and she did the swim, I did the bike and her sister ran for us.
Well, she hasn't biked that much so we've been doing short bikes with the kids lately. I suggested we do this ride because it is relatively flat and she could gain confidence that she can do 12 miles (that is the lenghth of our race). Now there were gradual inclines that were pretty long but overall it was an easy ride for me.
My friend however, was dying. This really surprised me as she is my running partner, can run faster than I can, can swim pretty fast. She is having major doubts about being able to do the bike leg, since I told her the hills are killers and we really didn't do any hills yesterday. Although it was an endurance ride, whereas the race route, you work hard on the hills, but you coast and have breaks on the downhills. Like an interval workout. But tougher.
So I learned an interesting lesson yesterday. The events are really different and take different skills. It's not just all about your cardio level/ability.
I think what has helped me the most is taking spin classes. I've taken them for a year and a half and I think that has helped me learn so much and gain so much biking endurance.
I think after the race, if my arm cooperates, I want to take swimming lessons and work on that goal. I would really like to do all 3 events in 09.
Food: Another really good day! I am finding this amazing. This has not been that hard and I haven't felt deprived. Last night Collin wanted some Cheetos. I got them out for him and I DIDN'T want any!!!! I couldn't believe it. Huge Victory!
I think i had a breakthrough when I was listening to InsideOut Weight Loss and she was talking about our limiting beliefs. And she said a huge limiting belief in our country is "Weight Loss is Hard." She said that doesn't have to be true. You can set your intention for it to be easy and effortless.
So I've simply been telling myself, "Weight loss is easy for me. Eating healthy is easy and effortless."
And I think it's been making a difference!
Right now my MIL is going to watch the kids and I'm going for a training ride by myself. I plan to go on the road (instead of a bike trail) and do some major hill training.
So I'm off to do that. I hope I can check in later!

I'm watching the Olympic trials now and noticing the IMMENSE difference in the body types of the women runners and the women swimmers. You'd think that being good in one sport would mean you'd be good in all of them, but different muscles are in play in each!
=D You should be so proud of all you've done, Nikki!
