Moving Forward

Sunday, August 10th 2014

So, I set out on a course to slim down and live longer. In addition to learning a lot of things about food, I've learned a few things about myself. First, and most important, I am stronger than I thought. Like many if not most people I have a less than commendable track record when it comes to weight loss success. However, I have learned that the past is irrelevant and the only thing that matters is where I am going. And I have full control over my destination.

Waist vs. Waste

Saturday, August 9th 2014

I have always had a bit of trouble throwing away perfectly good stuff. :angry2: My parents were among those that cautioned against leaving food on the plate because "children in Asia are starving." My Second Kitchen

Thursday, August 7th 2014

Several mornings I have been tempted to run downstairs and weigh myself because my shirt seemed a bit baggier than usual or my belt buckle slipped into the next hole. I resist. I much prefer the greater difference a week makes than the smaller difference that a day can make. I derive considerably more motivation when the scale tells me I have d...

Accurate Portion Sizing

Sunday, August 3rd 2014

I made a pork roast in the crock pot overnight and it has spent the whole day getting yummy. I was in a quandary as to how I would determine the calories - PROBLEM SOLVED. I had to get some groceries so, while I was out, I purchased a food scale to take the guesswork out of determining portion sizes. Only $20 at my local Bed, Bath & Beyond. It's a bit like having a referee looking over my shoulder and blowing the whistle when I say, "That's about 4 ounces of meat." This thing i...
