Yesterday I finished reading an entertaining novel, The Smoke Jumper by Nicholas Evans. A satisfying love story, one of the main characters was a smoke jumper/photographer turned war photojournalist. He traveled around the world to different altercations taking photographs of the struggles. As part of the novel, the author wrote about men and women photojournalists who had changed the way photography was used during war. Robert Capa was one name mentioned, James Nachtwey was another, there were many others, none I'm remembering here.
Yesterday, during my trip to the library while perusing the DVDs, I came across WARphotographer, a documentary about James Nachtwey! I decided to borrow it and had time to view it last night.
Before reading the novel and watching last night's documentary, I'm not certain I belived that photojournalism of atrocities was good. But I think there should be some independents documenting what they see, and what occurs; talking to the people who live through the tragedy, and helping to keep a record of events. Otherwise, the whole story is left to the victors to write. And most of human history has been written by the victors, often giving us a one-sided view of human encounters and human civilisation. All too often, I think, that image has shown us that "might-makes-right." Which my heart cannot believe.
At any rate, The Smoke Jumper is a good read -- especially borrowed from your library. And WARphotographer is an excellent documentary.

No church today. Hubby disappointed but tolerant. Prayer and meditation first thing. Now I'm going to get ready for a long bike ride.
This is something that I would do after my mother's death more than 15 years ago. Moving meditation was much more soul satisfying than worship amongst believers. Perhaps I'm grieving the self I left behind before I began CK, and readying myself for who the new me will really be?
If you've read this far, thank you. Again, I humbly ask for your prayers if you are a praying person, good thoughts for my continued growth and well-being if that is more your style.
Peace go with you. -Otter

My father was a photographer, but not an official one in WW2. The war department still used his photos as did many news agencies. He latter became a NBC cameraman who's work you have seen since it is still used today. We still have some of his war photos that tell of the destruction of a city after a bombing. Pictures need no commentary. They tell a story all to themselves.
I don't know what ails or grieves your spirit, but I sense there is something going on there. It is more than the transformation taking place as your body loses weight. My pray will be for the Lord's healing and comfort upon you.
