View OTTER's food & exercise for this day

Attended an excellent brown-bag seminar yesterday, on the topic of cardiac health.

The cardiologist who did the presentation was an excellent speaker and presented the information clearly and patiently answered our questions (which ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous).

Point: I am remembering that being a lighter weight person is NOT just about beauty or fashion, but about HEALTH! I am remembering that much of my health is my responsibility. If I eat right and am active I can be healthier than if I am sedentary and follow the "See-Food" Diet (I see food, I eat it).

Biggest thing I took away: sugary liquids = belly fat = raised triglycerides = increased risk of heart attack (heart disease). Sugary liquids = soda, juice, mocha, ... gatorade!

Interesting tidbit: US of America's obesity rate in children started to rise precipitously in 1980. What happened in 1980? WIC (Women Infant & Children) program approved apple juice for children. Basically empty calories that rot your teeth and encourage belly fat.

Will I sign back up on CK? Yes. It will help me continue to strive for my best goal - a healthier lifestyle, lived lifelong.

Happy Tuesday! :queen:

Wow, I did not know that about Gatorade and apple juice! Re the apple juice, another reminder we can't trust our government!

Good reminder that this is about quality of life and not just quality of looks. =D My mom would never buy us soda as a kid. I think it was a cost factor but she actually did us a favor at the waist line too.

Thank you so much for writing this today. I was feeling pretty low and discouraged. This was a good thing for me to read right now.
