Saturday, Nov 14 2009 - Turned a corner? . . .

View OTTER's food & exercise for this day

Funny, I don't feel I have much to say today. But there is a sense that I've turned a corner. I'm ready to leave the neighborhood of "poor me" and move on to the neighborhood of "yay me!"

Translation: Sitting around and waiting to feel better about my life won't work much. But choosing to do things that are meaningful (from the mundane [dishwashing] to the sublime [ceramics work]) will make me feel better almost immediately.

Diaries have shown me where I need to get my eating back on track, and put more effort into my physical activity. Open Enrollment season at work reminds me, too, that I can lower my risk for many of the health issues I face by being better with diet and exercise. Reading through _Rebuilding . . ._ by Bruce Fisher and _Bad Childhood, Good Life_ by Dr. Laura are helping me see my own choices in new light.

Next piece to start to put into place: reaching out to others in friendship. Maybe the toughest thing for me. Never learned in childhood. Always a struggle in adult life. Oh well, as Anne LaMott says "bird by bird."

If you've visited - thank you. May your day and your journey be a blessed one. -Otter

Glad to hear you're feeling more positive about things! Life is so much easier when you're feeling positive, isn't it?

Hi there. Here is a tip for making friends. Identify someone you might like as a friend and then take them for test run over coffee, on a walk, or for dinner. Do this twice before figuring out if they are compatible as friends? That is how I find new friends. And don't forget the old ones in your life. most the time people don't' have the energy to call but are happy to receive calls. You are doing great. courage, Judy
