Big Day Here, New Milestone...

Tuesday, December 2nd 2008

Middle sister has accepted in-home hospice care. We had a meeting that lasted 90 minutes with a representative from the company (a person who is also a registered nurse), services begin immediately. It is an amazing adjunct to the support that we, her sisters, can offer her. Medical support by phone 24/7, delivery of medications (no hunting down elusive prescriptions across three counties!), physical devices (walker, transport wheelchair, over bed table, raising of toilet seat), and emotional...

New Month!

Monday, December 1st 2008

Breathe in, breathe out; one foot in front of the other.

It was a challenging weekend. Middle sister spent some time in hospital. Was discharged back home on same day. I am glad she is home, but also worried that we can't give her the care she needs. There is a constant energy of anxiety/fear that we may do something that will hurt middle sister.

Good Thanksgiving, giving thanks...

Happy Holiday to those in the U.S.A. today.

We had a rough night last night. Middle sister had much pain, and yesterday there was trouble in digesting. Oh, she has so much pain. But I didn't want to start there.

We will have a modest Thanksgiving celebration today. All our small family will gather over a humble home-cooked meal. We will be grateful to share what we can.

Thank you for those who have stopped in. Thank you to those who have sent PM. I send thanks to friends wh...

A better day today?

Tuesday, November 25th 2008

Middle sister is resting downstairs. I'm stealing a few moments to myself to listen to recordings of the Psalms and post here.

What's better? Middle sister has begun the process of wrestling with what living means to her now that there is no longer any "clinical, medical" treatment available. Her breast cancer with mets to bone and liver has left her too weak for another chemo treatment.

But we sisters have talked together, and talked with social workers, and talked to o...
