So I have to vent...
This weekend was a little rocky with regard to eating out and my husband's eating choices.
On Friday my husband announced that we'd been invited by some of our chinese friends to go out for dim sum.
Dim sum = diet death.
I said no and he went without me. That was ok, I decided not to let it bother me. *Patting myself on the back*
Then yesterday my husband had a craving for greek food. Since turning vegan (3 months ago) we haven't really eaten out very much so I haven't really had to experience restaurant difficulties. I said ok because I didn't feel like cooking.
Anyway, so we get there and I decided to splurge and have some grilled calamari (even being vegan I don't mind a little seafood once in a while). Also being incredibly hungry (only 500 calories consumed up until then and I had worked out in the morning) I decided to go for some hummus and pita as an appetizer.
Well, the waitress shows up at the table with FRIED calamari, not grilled calamari. Without getting into a rant about bad customer service I will only mention that SHE didn't ask whether I wanted fried or grilled calamari and thus it was HER fault not mine for the mix-up (yet we were still charged for it).
Anyway, I thought about how many calories were going to be in the meal (even after substituting the rice and potatoes for extra veggies, I happened to notice the veggies were slathered in butter). I also took a moment to assess my hunger and realized I was already satisfied.
I ended up telling her I was full enough from the hummus and pita and the starter salad and that she could just box up the calamari for my husband to take for lunch today.
My husband got really bothered and upset that he had to sit and eat in front of me but I was honestly full by then.
So two very important observations:
1) I don't need to eat as much as I think I do to be satisfied
2) Eating out (especially on whim/unplanned)... is a disaster
Although peeved about the experience... I can see a couple of good lessons out of it.
