Thursday, Feb 11 2010 - Sometimes the snoopy ones aren't so bad...
View PLATEOFSTARS's food & exercise for this day
There is this woman in my office... I think there's at least one in EVERY office.
She's just plain snoopy. She gets into everyone's business, asks much too personal questions, gossips about everyone (because she always has answers to much too personal questions) and is just, kind of obnoxious.
Luckily I have rarely had to interact with her but she happened to be in the washroom with me today. She looks me up and down and says
"I was noticing today - you've really lost weight haven't you?"
Wondering from which time of reference she was referring (since I started this job 3 months ago but have been to corporate events where she's attended much longer ago). She replied that she remembered me from a group activity at a corporate event last May.
I told her I'd lost 50 lbs since then and she said "Yes, I didn't realize it was you at first but then I realized it was the same person and that you are much smaller now."
Then, the infamous question. You know... the one that people expect you to answer in 10 words or less...
"How did you do it?"
Then I told her, as politely as possible... trying to avoid the inevitable scrutiny... "Watching very closely what I eat and exercising".
I could have laughed because her response to that was "That's it? just watching what you eat and exercising?"
Anyway... She thankfully did not try to go on about making sure I'm losing weight in a healthy way (a lecture I received last night from my cello teacher) and I have to actually appreciate her snoopiness (today anyway).
It's nice when people notice and don't feel shy to comment.
Adds some fuel to the inspirational bon-fire.

LOL...yeah they always want that magic pill that you must be taking to lose weight.
Glad that others are noticing the weight loss though, that must feel great. Keep up the great work. Your doing amazing.

That moment after they ask that first question is rather nerve wracking, isnt it? Are they going to go too far and be obnoxious? Are they going to ask some daffy question that makes you feel bad? Im three weeks away from going back to work after a 4 month sick leave, and Ive lost 30+ since any of them have seen me. A size 20 to a 14 (or 12 by the time March gets here!) and Im tremendously nervous about the comments Im going to get. My work place has a very high number of snoopy, mean, gossips and Im really not quite mentally prepared to face the fat-girl-fireing-squad.
:nono2: Thanks for sharing, I feel a little better after reading your post!
