Just in the past couple of days I've received several comments about having lost weight. I got that "have you been working out?" question today from one of my colleagues who said she could tell I've lost weight lately and that I'm looking "leaner".
And since it's not the first time I've heard this in the past few days... I had to resist the first impulse which was to deny the possibility that I've lost weight.
You see... the scale has barely budged in the last 6 weeks. I've lost less than 5 lbs in the last six weeks and have been fairly depressed about it.
I haven't let the depression get to me because I know I'm working really hard and doing everything (pretty much) right and can see the muscle definition improving so I've tried not to get too caught up on it.
I've been really really scared to try on smaller sized clothing in the past 6 weeks because of the lack of movement on the scale. I tried on a couple of size 8 shirts and bought a size 8 dress to "shrink into" but absolutely refused to even THINK about trying size 8 bottoms. I told myself I wouldn't be allowed to try them until I got into the 160s.
Well, with the comment I received from that colleague this morning on top of the fact that I'm wearing a pair of size 12s that I'm absolutely SWIMMING in... I thought about breaking my own rule and went to the Gap at lunch to try on size 8 pants.
With much trepidation, I took 3 pairs of different styles of 8's into the change room.
This may not surprise you but it sure shocked me... they all FIT! But, I mean... they
FIT. Not tight at all. One pair was even a little loose.
I could have fallen over right there and had a heart attack.
I've NEVER EVER EVER
EVER been able to wear single digit sized bottoms IN MY LIFE!!!!!
So there you have it folks... I'm converted.
I was always one of those skeptics who didn't necessarily believe the "muscle weighs more than fat" excuse to not losing weight on the scale and that you can still be losing weight even if you don't lose pounds.
I'm a believer! In the past 6 weeks I've lost an inch from my waist, 2 from my hips, 2 from my chest and 1.5 from each of my thighs.
And gone down a size...!!!
I still can't hardly believe it.
I'm an EIGHT!

Congrats! I am too afraid to go into a store and try on 8s. I don't know why I'm so fearful. I think I want to save it for my birthday. That way if they fit, it'll be an awesome day. IF they don't, I'm gonna get drunk anyway

Nicole, I hope you bought at least one pair of those pants. You would astound them at work and us too well me. As I always say, The scale is a just one indicator. The best is how do I feel and look to myself.

I am so happy for you! That is awsome!!!
I have a hard time with the muscle weighing more than fat too. Because one time on BL one of the trainers said a pound muscle is the same as a pound of fat... So if the scale doesn't move I figured I did something wrong. But I am seeing changes in my clothing too...
Again I am so happy for you!!!!!

Congrats! I haven't had the scale move (2 lbs in the past 6 weeks or so) much either. Just trying to keep on keeping on. You have inspired me to keep going! Thanks.

Woo-hoo!
 That's awesome!
I'm so happy for you. I've been stuck at 170 (and a size 12) for months (Really, what's a girl to do?!?) but I remember that feeling of breaking through to another size, and breaking into the single digits must feel great. Kudos to you!

SWEET! Congratulations, that must feel so good. All your hard work is paying off - and that goes to show you how relative the scale is. Yay!
