Wednesday, Jul 14 2010 - Catching up with what I look like

View PLATEOFSTARS's food & exercise for this day

I am still catching up with what I look like and am probably about 20-30 lbs larger, in my mind, than I actually am.

Yesterday, after a woman my age and height left the elevator we were in, as a mental check-in, I asked my DH to tell me, honestly, wheter I am larger or smaller than the woman.

He told me I am smaller.

It kind of freaked me out because I wasn't expecting that answer. Then he started listing off some women we know in common to find ones that I am a similar size to.

It was a bit of a wake-up call.

Anyway - little tidbit for the day.

I kind of like that, everday I wake up, there's something new I can learn about myself.

I know the feeling! There are days I feel like I see myself realistically, and other days where I feel like I see myself with about 25ish more pounds on my frame. Though, I don't ordinarily see myself 60lbs heavier anymore. So, I suppose that's progress of some type? I think I might try this little "larger or smaller game"...

I am totally there. When I first lost weight and was at goal (now within 3 lbs again after brief smallish regain) I asked by DH all the time-- I am smaller or larger than her? Often I was really shocked when he would say "Way Smaller!!". I just couldn't see it. When I was heavy, I thought I wasn't that heavy. And now that I'm thin, I still don't have a good sense of how thin. Although, I have a more realistic picture of how I look as a thin person than I did previously. It takes time.

The brain is an interesting thing. Sometimes I think we need to tell it to shut up and just believe.

It's a very weird feeling. My biggest problem (if you can call it a problem) is when I try on clothes at a store I still grab the size I think I am, only to find out it's too big. Just cannot get used to size small/8.

I do the same thing to my Hubby! I am always like, I bigger than her - right? And he gives me a look with crazy eyes :bigeyes3: and sets me straight.
