Today was an incredibly empowering day.
I went back to the store with the gorgeous jacket in the window - walked in with my head high - perused the racks (which were full of shi-shi, hoity-toity over-priced "designer" clothing), found the only other version of the coat that was in the store (other than the one in the window), tried it on, then asked if the one in the window...
was a smaller size. (!!!!)
It was. Tried it on.
It fit. like. a. glove.
So so gorgeous on me.
I looked at the price tag and, admittedly had been working myself up the past few days to get the jacket if I liked it as a present to myself for having reached my goal weight.
I bought it.
I'm not sure why but I told the woman at the till my story. Maybe I felt for all the money I was giving her, she owed me her ear.
I told her that her's was the first "designer" store I've ever walked into and that the coat was the first "designer" anything that I've ever purchased.
She looked at me inquisitively.
I nearly started crying.
I told her that I've lost 80 lbs in the last year and never in my adult life have I ever been able to anywhere NEAR fit into anything "designer."
The woman took my hand and congratulated. with incredible sincerity. She, in fact, thanked me several times for sharing my story with her.
She gasped as well when she looked at me, telling me I look like I've always been thin and exclaimed over and over what a beautiful woman I am and how well put together I look, that she would have never guessed.
I took it for what it was. Held back the tears and walked out with an empty bank account but my head held high.

yeah! definitely more than I was expecting to pay for my "goal weight gift to myself" but I had otherwise been planning on buying a nice dress... but how often do you wear a nice dress? a nice coat, on the other hand, can last years and be worn everyday during the winter.
