View PRNCSSGRL's food & exercise for this day
It's hard to get settled in after being away for almost a week. I'm not sure if that's the way it is for most people. It doesn't really matter if I'm away for 24 hours or for 24 days. I spend a few days upon my return making sure everything is as it was when I left. Nothing lost. Nothing moved. Pets accounted for. Car still parked where I left it and a Husband fed properly in my absense.
I love my Polar FT4 except I'm still trying to emotionally adjust to the lower kcal numbers it's giving me. I'm still burning a lot of calories while working out. Just not as many as I had initially thought. I'm impressed with the wireless capabilities of the equipment at the gym. Most machines pick up my heart rate so I don't have to keep looking at my watch.
I talked to my therapist about the purging situation. I'm confident this was an isolated incident. Better to not dwell and worry whether I'm returning to old behaviors. I'm not.
I am an official owner of Vibram Five Fingers. I took them to the gym today to give them a whirl on the treadmill and immediately shaved off 5 seconds on fastest mile to date. New PB mile is 10:35. I need to decide if I'm going to run in them this Saturday for my second 5k? I feel like it would be okay since I'm a pretty new runner. Any thoughts?
Speaking of which, I'm getting ready to run in my second 5k. Sound to Narrows takes place this Saturday. I had a running partner but she had to back out since she just finished the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon last week. I'm a little apprehensive about running alone. I'm sure it will be fine. I'm not looking to beat my 37:40 time since the course is much different and I might be running in my vibrams.
I had a complete stranger come up to me at the gym and say the following: "Your hard work here is really paying off. You look totally different from when you first started coming here". I wanted to hug him and say thanks but at that particular moment I was showing the ARC trainer who was in control.
I've been reading "Triathlon for Women" by Sally Edwards. If I've taken anything away in the little portion that I've read it's this: There is a difference between excercising and training. I don't really exercise anymore which S.E. says the main purpose is to get into or stay in shape. Instead I train as S.E. describes it: "A person who trains has a greater goal in mind, a dream. Exercise is part of training, but it isn't the only part or even the most important part. If you identify your goals, you will have a greater purpose to drive you out the door to grain even when you don't feel like it".
Do you exercise or train?

Yes! For me that's the same thing. It usually takes me a couple of days to get readjusted to any routine when coming back home. Perfectly normal behavior.

From what I've read in your other blogs, to me it sounds like you just got caught in a stressful moment and that was just how your mind dealt with it. You didn't purge when you had that 1000 calorie lunch did you? Just sounds like an isolated incident to me, but of course something to keep in the back of your head that could happen again until you can learn to love food again. But love it with a balance.
It feels good to have a total stranger or someone you know come up and tell you what difference they notice. I'm getting those kinds of reactions from co-workers now. Some are coming right out and saying they notice the weight loss, others end up bringing it up when I talk about what I've been doing. That's pretty cool to have that guy just come up and say that to you. Positive reinforcement that you're doing good!

I train. Definitely train because i always have a goal in mind. Though there are days where I am just going through the motions of doing something for a calorie burn and don't really give it my all. Thankfully those days are getting fewer and further between.
As for Nom Nom Nom'g Rohin, you'll have to wait for my sloppy seconds. HE'S MINE FIRST! But isn't he a cutie pie?

I travel a lot - and sometimes wonder if it is worth the pleasure when I return - always takes so long to recover my usual (disrupted) life patterns.
I think that what you are going through is common - you just have to ride it out, and plan a schedule, so you return to your desired habits quicker!

I train. And I like to train alone, I'll socialize later hee hee.
After awile I stopped focusing so much on the qyantity of the burn and focused more on the quality I was producing. I wanted to meet goals that were beyond weightloss, goals that I could transfer over into life like perseverance, patience, love for oneself and appreciation for being able to do many different things that when a certain physical task came up u were able to see how it came to be because of so and so.
I would wear them. Give 'em a whirl. Have fun! Glad ur back!

Glad that your home again in more controlable surroundings. Sounds like that is just what you needed to feel back on track and grounded.
I have a friend that uses the Vibram Five Fingers when he runs all the time, he swears by them...but I would caution trying to do too much distance in them right away until you really get used to them. They say that you should break them in slowly so that your muscles get used to the new running form, your going to be using muscles in a different way now based on the change in type of "shoe". I would say to use your regular shoes on this one and break those Five Fingers in slowly before tackling a race with them. Just my two cents.
So glad to hear that people are noticing the payoff of all your hard work!! What a great feeling that has to be girl! Good for you.

Know what? If you needed me to, I'd fly to Washington state this weekend and run with you! Know why? Because you inspire me like that! I'm sure that you'll be just fine, but I'd be out there as fast as the plane could get me there if you needed it!
:laugh5:
Is the FT4 compatible with the PolarPersonalTraining.com website? If so, have you used it yet? I use the RS400 and upload my data to their website. Its neat to see a graphical representation of my workouts...
About the Vibram Five Fingers, I'm definitely going to get them now, even though my wife doesn't want me to wear them in public. He he...I can't wait to wear them in public!

When I was involved with the equestrian sport of endurance riding, (long distance riding) I rode most of my rides w/o a buddy. Really grew to like it that wat 'cuz I met and rode with lots of interesting people (and horses.) Perhaps you can do the same, run alone and meet some intersting folks along the way.
:)
One of Sally Edwards first books was on how to use an HRM and I found it to be an invaluanle resouce!
Good luck with the run!

OMG, I almost bought a pair of the VFF. I didn't cause i wasn't sure of the support in them. I was tossing up the idea with a few on line. Do you feel like they support your feet/ankles etc...?

I also find myself out of sorts when I go away. I try to jump right back in to the game but sometimes my head isn't home yet from vacation. :-)
I really think I started off exercising, but I think I am moving more to the trainning side. I see myself pushing harder each week.
