Wednesday, Jul 14 2010 - bmr test.

View RAEANNESISSON's food & exercise for this day

i decided to invest in a basal metabolic rate test... at my local hospital's wellness center they do many nutrition/diet services and this is one of them. this is an oxygen-based test and i will breathe into a tube for 10 minutes and they will analyze how my body metabolizes the oxygen. (or at least i think this is how it works...)

i am still up at 144.1 this morning, recovering from over-indulgences of last weekend... this frustrates me to no end and makes me want to binge even more. last night i decided to lower my cals to 1400 as if to punish myself and to "lose" that weight. but i then talked myself into going back to 1700 as i have been doing on maintenance... blahblahblah. see, i don't think i TRULY gained 4 lbs.... but it is frustrating nonetheless.

also, since increasing my cals to 1700 i naturally increased everything else in my diet -- fiber and sugar being the WORST culprits and i can't figure out exactly where to cut these. now, sugar... i know i need to avoid added sugar but all the fruit i eat really hikes up my sugar count. i can't help but think that this added sugar is what's causing "bloat" around my middle... but i don't know if i am imagining the bloat.... and the fiber. don't get me started. maybe THIS is why i weigh more. LOL. i get over 50g of fiber a day... the other day i got 76g! this can't be good.

i am supposed to run 6 miles tonight for my shoreline classic training run. i am nervous about it because it's supposed to be really hot. i have only run 6.5 TOPS and i am nervous for my knee. i will just take it slow i think. but my goal is to RUN IT ALL and not stop.

i am excited for this BMR test so i know EXACTLY what i should be eating for maintenance. and what i can get away with eating to lose. even though i am okay with the number on the scale, there are still some areas i wouldn't mind losing.

well, i can't eat or drink a damn thing til after my test... so i am going to mosey on over and do the dishes and maybe get a few more minutes of shut eye.

UPDATE:

BMR Results:
REE = 1512 (resting energy expenditure)
Maintenance Zone = 1512-1965 cals
Weight Loss Zone = 1210-1512 cals

This tells me CK is awesome. :) And also that there is NO WONDER i was going crazy at 1300 cals because my resting cals are 1500 and I was also exercising... I will never go below 1400-1500 again even if I want to lose. In fact, this gives me a little push to go back down to 1500 to try to lose the last few lbs. We shall see. But I "can" be happy at 140ish.... and if my body comp is changing, even better.

I made an appt to talk to a dietitian about my other concerns with sugar/fiber etc. I am also going to do a reliable body comp analysis next week. This will help me gain perspective.

I just had mine done today... My resting metabolic rate was 1620. To lose 1.5 pounds a week, I'm supposed to net 1136 calories (1825 calories of food - 689 calories of exercise [which is what was figured as my average workout]). So my range is from 1136 to 1825. Super interesting to see it all documented out. Of course, not going until 1200. :)

That is really interesting! Thanks for sharing the results. I think that would be really interesting to get done myself. It's amazing how much there is that we can learn about how our bodies work.

yes, i think it was worth it even thought it was a little bit "just for peace of mind" because i didn't learn much. :) other than... i am doing what is right already.

it was 50 bucks... so not too bad. i am going back for body fat composition next week. i think this will be nice to know, accurately. i wish i would have done the BMR more early in my journey... it would have eased my mind about the dangers of going below 1400 when i stressed at 1300 cals.

This sounds fascinating. I was researching on that a while ago but was not sure if this test would be accurate. It is good to know that you had a good experiece. I found a gym in Atlanta that would do the test for $65.00. I guess I might make this test my award if I make it to 145 lbs... :-)

The test sounds interesting -- hopefully you'll post on your experience :) I'm curious about what they can tell you.

Good luck on your run, I'm sure you'll be fine!
