Sunday, Aug 1 2010 - vacation & break from logging & reflection.

View RAEANNESISSON's food & exercise for this day

i took a break from logging my food, a vacation, and today is my first day back to "reality."

i didn't do too awful... made good choices and i am sure the 5lb gain in the scale is water/salt/sugar related. but i obviously didn't eat as cleanly as if i was at home, in my usual environment...

i know i didn't do as good as i "could" have because there were moments of snacking where i was very aware that i wasn't even hungry but just eating because i could... not because i needed to. the breakfasts at the hotel were not my norm, but not too far off. they had oatmeal and i added some protein powder... but i also added a waffle, boiled egg, apple, banana, muffin, or cereal when i felt like it. there was just too much to choose from... and i probably had 500 cal breakfasts each day.

while i did not log specifically, 3 of the last 4 days i did write down what i ate so i at least had a record. i was within 500 of my goal for cals... usually. but yesterday went way south. i don't know if it was because we got back home and i was overwhelmed with the feeling that the vacation was over, etc. we also stopped at cracker barrel for one last hurrah and i was so sick of having salads (since this is all i ordered whenever we went out) that i gave in and had dumplins! they were good but i think they are wreaking havoc on my gut today.

we came home and i stocked my fridge with fresh foods. so far so good... back on track today. i will count tomorrow's weigh in as official since this morning i weighed at 4:45am and that's way earlier than normal, plus my body was likely swollen etc.

it was nice to have a break, but i need to log. here is why....

1. i know exact ratios of carb/protein/fat --- i need this and wondered where i was with these ratios when i didn't log my foods. i like to know how i am doing...

2. to be accountable --- it is so much easier to nibble here and there when i know i don't have to log it.

3. for health --- i look at my foods much more closely when i have to log them... and i feel better when i am logging, plus my food choices are more whole foods that are better for me.

4. i'm not ready yet to get rid of my training wheels, and when i do... it won't be on vacation!

5. i still have a pooch around the middle that seems to be where i hold excess weight/fluid and i really would like to get rid of that. i may play with my numbers once school starts back up to see if i can't lose the last 10 lbs or so.

....in other news....

we had a great vacation! here's what our days were like:

wednesday:
drove to STL,
checked into hotel,
dinner at pujols5,
found the nearest starbucks and met some nice barristas,
planned our itinerary,
had some coldstone creamery cake batter ice cream w/marshmallows and graham,
walked around a crazy nice mall and got some amazing aromatic tea and balsamic,
settled in for the night.

thursday:
breakfast at hotel,
arch @ 9am and thank god i had internet tickets/already paid because it got busy fast,
documentary movie about the building of the arch - old but amazing,
arch gift shops, salt water taffy,
soulard farmer's market, got some nice salt free spices and fresh coffee,
drove to "the hill" for a lunch at lorrenzo's italian eatery, good but fattening,
went to the AKC dog museum and spent the most money out of the whole vacay,
found a trader joe's WOW,
went back to hotel and swam, and jacuzi'd,
settled in for the night.

friday (it rained):
breakfast at hotel,
slept in til 7am,
i got up and did my 2 mile run... amazing,
butterfly house and conservatory -- talk about adrenaline!
cheesecake factory meltdown -- didn't eat there, got seated and it was too crazay so we left,
mcdonalds for lunch! familiarity!!! and this particular mcdonalds had the most delicious ice cream... said they were known for it and even had two sizes of cone!!!
back to hotel to freshen up,
we were going to do grant's farm or the zoo... but it rained all day!
drove to forest park for the STL art museum... AMAZING. this is where we spent the most time,
dinner at pujols5,
coldstone ice cream -- sweet cream w/strawberries,
back to hotel...

saturday:
slept in,
breakfast at hotel,
laughed at the kid who had a shirt that said "i put ketchup on ketchup."
packed up,
finally bought some water... for the ride home! (should have done this day1)
drove home,
stopped in springfield for cracker barrel,
picked up our babies!

Sounds like a great vacation!
My hubby has a thing for Cracker Barrels -- in that he gets sick every time he eats there (regardless of location). Whenever we pass one, he'll point and say, "Did I ever tell you about the most I ever threw up?" Sorry for being so gross, but every Cracker Barrel story reminds me of him... :)
