i had a good 7 mile run last week. i can remember running 3 miles and feeling so accomplished and now i have more than doubled that and it's like the same emotions flow through me all over again but the feeling is even stronger. i started this journey out of shape and 254 lbs with high blood pressure. here i am, getting ready for a half marathon... 100 lbs less.
we ran in the rain today, and there was lightening. i was scared. but i was also reminded how alive i am.... how blessed we are to be able to push our bodies to the limit, and to have the choice to do so.
my first 5k was a defining moment for me. i was unsure and scared, a little embarassed at how slow i ran, but also very proud to even RUN.... and to maybe someday say that i was a "runner." at the very most i would call what i did "jogging" but not running.
i think i can finally say that i am a runner. not that i need the title... it's not about that. but it's almost like after i got past the 5 mile mark on my long days, it's a whole new world. i have a new sense of accomplishment, and of confidence. i feel like the half marathon is something that is attainable, and not just something i say that i will do...
two weeks in a row 7 miles felt so great. i wonder what 8 will feel like.
remember when you were a teenager and everything was new? first kiss, first car, first dance, etc? that is how i feel. working my way up in miles is giving me a lot of firsts to look forward to.... i know that after the "first" it's never quite the same.
i want to revel in these emotions. i never want to forget this feeling... the feeling of being alive, and strong.

And this is EXACTLY why you won't stop at the half, Raeanne. Every time we do a new long run distance, it's the furthest I've ever run. And that same feeling of intense accomplishment happens every time I hit a new distance. That feeling is what keeps me going. That feeling fuels me, makes me want more. I know precisely how you feel. I think this is why people get addicted! Just wait until you hit double digits the first time. I almost cried when I finished 10 miles. We got off the couch, Raeanne. We've taken charge of our lives. What a feeling that is. Running reminds me of that, not a run goes by that I don't think about the weight loss journey. And you are right, it makes me feel POWERFUL.

Raeanne, you are an inspiration to me! Congratulations on your successes. What speed do you consider going from jogging to running.
I can do 4 miles on the treadmill, adjusting my speed from 4 to 6 mph, sometimes with an incline, but have yet to actually hit the road outside.
Thanks for sharing your blog!

I think the title runner is a badge of accomplishment. You've crossed over into a new breed of active person. I think you're doing super awesome too.
:P
I'm probably right where you were when you first started this weight loss journey. I've started walking and I'm struggling to just get 30 minutes at 2.7mph pace under my belt without falling on my face right now. One day I hope to be in your shoes. With that being said you're an inspiration to me.
by the way I think you should change your name to IMPERFECTLYCUTE. Just saying...

Raeanne, you are one of the awesome friends that I study when looking for tips on how to do things right. I'm up to 3 miles running myself and I can't wait to increase my distance beyond that.
I saw a post recently on someone's homepage when you noted that your weight was still in the 220s. (I'll send you the link if you're interested). It is amazing what you have accomplished!
