today is my first long distance race. i'm running a 15k.
one year ago, i never would have imagined that i would sign up for this!

but here i am, and i am ready. i have trained, my longest training run so far (10 miles) was under awful conditions and so i feel confident that this race is do-able.
the weather looks like it may be awful today, but that's okay. i am going to pull strength from god and those around me and just remember how ALIVE i am. and how truly blessed i am that my body can do such amazing things.
after this race, i have my sights on a half marathon... october 16th. and i intend to keep my conditioning up all winter to start right where i left off in the spring.
i had a good breakfast of carbs (oatmeal, toast, banana), chinese for dinner last night with white rice and no sauce... chicken and mixed veggies. i did pasta friday night with a bagel... i have been preparing my body....
i wouldn't say i'm confident, but logically i know i "should" be able to do this.
god, i put this in your hands now....
Run by my side -- live in my heartbeat; give strength to my steps.
As the cold confronts me, as the wind pushes me, I know you surround me.
As the sun warms me, as the rain cleanses me, I know you are touching me,
challenging me, loving me.
And so I give you this run;
thank you for...matching my stride. Amen.
UPDATE:
I DID IT! I finished in 1:31:12 and it felt so great! the rain subsided after about 1 to 2 miles. we paced ourselves the first 1/3 and pushed the last 2/3. we finished STRONG!
check out the video if it will work, a friend got our finish!

I'm so rooting for you!!! Let me know how it went. I'm envious of how well you've done with the exercise and running. I will get to that point, just can't yet as I'm focusing on school.
