Saturday, Nov 15 2008 - New Found Running Ability
View ROCKMOM2's food & exercise for this day
===copied this post from my post yesterday on the November 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge Forum===wanted to be able to access it easily to remind me how far I have come:
Quick post this morning cause I am so excited. I NEVER thought I would be a runner
yes Vicki @ 48 years old can call herself a runner
why do you ask? Thanks to Toni I realized I have been on the verge for quite a while
my treadmill does what I guess is integral (???) training. When I tell it program #5 it starts out at 2.5 mph with no incline. This moves up by .5 mph every 2 minutes until it reaches 4 mph. after 2 minutes @ 4 mph, it goes back to 3.5 mph for 2 minutes
back and forth until the last 8 minutes, it goes back down by .5 mph---the whole time it is at an incline of 3-6 until it starts going down. At 4 mph I AM A RUNNER! Today was the first day I did not hold on at all and just jogged (yes, Toni said jogging is running..thank you Toni) the entire time it was at 4 mph. Now, I did hold on every once in a while at 3.5 but I walk that anyway. I am sooooo excited! My knees dont hurt
my shins dont hurt
LIFE IS SOOOO GOOD! I am getting healthy!
Oh, and I also have definition in my upper arms (not the angel wings so much---anyone have a good exercise for these?) but I am using hand weight for the warm up part of my treadmill, between 5-8 minutes each time I am on the treadmill
just that little addition has made a huge difference in my arms. It has been consistency
the weights sit on the treadmill and I always pick them up when I turn it on. WHOOOOPIE!
-----Really posted on Blog today:
This new found ability to run is more amazing than I can describe. I was the kid in elementary school picked last for games like red rover...the high school girl who didn't try out for the dance squad cause I never did any exercise in my life...couldn't even do a cartwheel and still can't.
I have definitely come a long way and have the folks like Toni (on challenge and a marathon runner) to thank for realizing I can do this. Now I need to get my rear in gear and make plans to run a 5K. Never though I would say run??? I always planned to do a 5K someday, but thought I would be one of the walkers...never thought I could both run and walk.
At 48 I feel a new part of my life being revealed to me. I truly can "do all things through Christ who strengthens me".
Oh and weight today: 157.0 New low for this century!

I am so excited for you and the running, we always have so much in common it cracks me up. you know I too use a treadmill at home (just this morning I watched Desperate Housewives, really makes the time go by fast) I started running just a little at a time, or run 5 minutes then walk for 1 minute that kind of thing, now this morning I ran for 2 miles, like you said, I am not fast, I am at 4.5, so it takes me about 25 minutes to run 2 miles, then I walked another mile and a half. you can definitely do a 5K!! you are doing awesome, and just your spirit and attitude will get you there! Look at your weight drop! Woo Hoo Sister, you are going to catch up with me soon!!

I meant to ask you the other day what kind of treadmill do youhave? Mine has 4 presets in it, but they all go faster than 4mph at the top of the program
:afraid4: . 4mph is about as fast as I can go! And I am with you...4mph makes you a runner
 . Heck I was "running" at 3.5

Hi!!!!!!!
I came to running late. I am not doing it now but if the joints are willing, I'd be doing it! There is nothing better for body and soul....
Thanks for your comments on my blog.
Best wishes,
