ROCKMOM2's CalorieKing blog

Monday, Dec 29 2008 - Glad to be back to CK!!!

View ROCKMOM2's food & exercise for this day

Exercise today---3.25 miles in 49 minutes, this included a very slow 2 mph 5 min warm up so really I did 3.11 miles in 44 minutes (maybe?). It was dark and cold out so I did the run on the TM.

My question for all you runnersÂ…regarding the 5K I will do on 1/10/09...signed up tonight so it is official----Do I need to warm up before I start the run so I am not walking the first few minutes? I am not fearful of this 5K, just concerned that I may be one of the slowest, but I know I will finish.

Have decided to include my running stats on here for now.

A miracle at work todayÂ…tomorrow was supposed to the be final day for me to have employees but I had a walk in customer need so much stone it will take 4-5 men 6 weeks to finish the job! PTL!--not definite, but he sounded really positive about it and said he would bring a check for 25% of the total on Monday for a deposit!!!

Weight this morning was 156.0. I am very pleased with that since I was at 156.4 on 12/23 before Christmas....WOW! I guess the running really helped, because I did not log and I ate way too many of my mom's homemade sugar cookies with icing.

So glad to be back here where I can read and post to all of you and encourage and be encouraged!

Hello Vicki,
You are doing great on your training for the 5k. I use to run 6 miles every other day. I ran a 5 k many years ago. I was the last one in but I finished. So don't worry. Stay proud that you are just entering. Yea for your daughter. There is nothing harder then tough love. We have been there and they need that once in a while. That is how they learn. Good luck with that.(that comment was for your last entry) Yea for your walk in customer. What kind
of business do you have? Glad you are back. Good job on the running.

My stepson, Keith is a runner. He ran 5Ks in high school. The team ALWAYS warmed up with a gentle run first. I am not sure of the distance, but you will want to get your body ready.

There's a New Years run in our area too. Am not ready for that yet. Maybe next year!

It also helps to go into the race with a plan, so that you are not overwhelmed with the situation and get swept away with the action. (That happened to me years ago when I entered my first 5K on Maui. I tried to keep up with others, when I should have just focused on me.) For example, plan your pace . . . and your initial goal should be completing your first 5K. Congrats!

Hi Vicki,
I'm excited for you for your first 5K. I would suggest some light jogging around near the start line before the race. You'll see lots of other runners doing it, too.

As for being one of the slowest... My running team has a slogan on our shirts that says "DLF>DNF>>DNS" Which means "Dead Last Finish is greater than Did Not Finish, which greatly trumps Did Not Start". Any finish is a great finish. Just have fun!

I'm getting excited for you and your first 5K. That is neat. I have no running advice for you. Just know that we are pulling for you here and we know you can do it. Go for it, Vic!!! I'm walk/running today after work on the TM it will be day 3. I have spread it out so far I think I will do day 3 twice and then move on to week 2 day 1 of C25K. Have you decided on your HRM or timnig device. I think you will not need a timer after you get to running most of your 30 minutes to an hour. Have you thought about that? Or have you considered using your iPod to keep up with the intervals outside? Not precise at all just run a song or two and walk a song then with iTunes on your PC each song is timed. This way you would have times on running and walking. Cause you are going to be running full up soon girl. I hope someone will take pictures of you in your first race and you post them here for your fans....Go Vicki! Go Vicki!

That is so awesome about your running! You are doing a wonderful job!! Arrive early and do some walking around beforehand. Your warm up is usually pretty slow paced anyway, so you should be ok with just a little 'observational' walking before the race. Then start the race running...but don't take off like a streak of lightning :) . A lot of people will and they will poop out before the end..lol

Welcome back Vicki, we missed you. Sounds like the running really did help you. One day...maybe, I will try to run. I haven't done any running since highschool when I played softball. And that IS wonderful news about the employees...a little Christmas Miracle!

Great job on your post-holiday weigh-in! And I'm very excited about your run. You will do a wonderful job! I recommend walking for five minutes before the run, and then doing the race by starting off running. In my experience everyone starts too fast and has lots of adrenaline; just keep your pace slow and steady, like you usually do, and you will be great. Don't worry about being too slow; others will walk more than you will. You goal is to finish your first 5K and you will succeed! I think in the next two weeks you could practice a few times of walking for 5 minutes and then doing the 3.11 miles at your usual pace (4.5 or 5.0 mph?), both on the treadmill and outside. Then take two days off before the race, or maybe walk a little. Oh, and if you usually listen to music, make sure you do that during the race, too. I found that many people do, and it can be motivating. If not, just listen to all of the people. Hope this isn't too much info and helps a little! Take care!!
