Sunday, Jan 18 2009 - A little frustrated on the weight front
but GREAT run day!
View ROCKMOM2's food & exercise for this day
My weight has been really crazy this month and I have no idea why. Those of you that run 3-4 miles 5-6 times a week may be able to give me some insight
I am eating back my calories, and maybe this is a mistake
I know lotz of people only eat back about ½ of their exercise calories. I may need to try that. Here is how my month has been:
Jan 1 - 156.0
Jan 15 151.6
Jan 18 -- 154.4
On a more positive note. My run today was fabulous. I was really surprised how much I enjoyed running without my iPod. I could pay more attention to my rhythm and my breathing
I try to sing to my iPod too much LOL! I didnt increase my speed too much, but added an entire mile to what I usually do. I also ran for most of the time instead of walking. My heart is really getting used to this. It is exciting to see my body happy to have me pushing it. My heart rate didnt get over 167 today
just kept a really steady pace. I have been backing down when it got to over 171. Took my resting heart rate this morning and have already forgotten what it was LOL! I think it was between 50 and 60. No worries, I will check it again in the next few days!
I had time to look up some 5K and 10K races yesterday and decided to see if I could run most of a 10K on my run today. It was awesome! I think today was the best day I have ever had
the first 5 miles were the best
then I got a charlie horse in my butt
OUCH! I walked almost all of the last miles, but I did finish the 6.18 miles
not quite 10K, but really close in 1:25:09. I looked up last years results for the Cowtown Marathon 10K
I would have been right in the middle of the results for my age group. I havent decided if I will sign up yet or not, may try to get hubby, son and sons gf to do the 5K with me instead. It just feels amazing to know that if I wanted to do it I could. The race is Feb 28th
plenty of time to decide.
I am signed up for a runners training program beginning this Saturday. I am VERY nervous about this. Since I have absolutely NEVER been an athlete so simply thinking of myself as part of a group of athletes seems a bit overwhelming. They have 3 different levels and Saturday is a 3 mile run to determine your running mates---it is not race, just a run at your normal running pace. This makes me more nervous than the thought of a 10K. I am hoping hubby will sign up as well, even if we end up in different groups. He will be skiing the 2nd week of February and needs that as his goal to start walking. His next goal would be the 5K I am already signed up for then end of April. He is a very goal oriented person where I am a fly by the seat of my pants, passionate person
he calls me obsessive, I prefer passionate!
Exciting news
son and his girlfriend signed up for CK this week! I am so proud of them for making a decision to get healthy! She graduated from college last month and he will graduate in May
they are ready to become healthy, young adults! They said watching me in my 1st 5K let them know they could do it too! Can you tell I am bursting with excitement for them? Welcome TEXAGGIE08 AND AGGIEREDHEAD08!
Enough for tonight
thanks to you all for listening to my passionate ramblings!
Blessings!

Hey Vicky Sugar Plum Sweetie Pie...you're so sweet, nice to see you post tonight. Honey I know how hard it can be. This is years into the process for me until I go to the point I am right now. I remember when I used to track my calories and something would upset me and I would get in my car and drive to the store to get chocolate covered peanuts and it HAD to be a particular kind of milk chocolate covered peanuts and somehow it calmed me down...and then the next day I felt guilty and the cycle continued on. I actually had to gain a lot of weight before I could make my "own" choice to slim down. I guess we all have our own process. Anyway, don't put too much pressure on yourself as you have done marvelously well. Love yourself and all the good habits will follow. You give so much to others and I just hope you'll give as much to yourself. You totally deserve it! xox

Vickster! You're so active now that your body must be gaining significant muscle mass. Have you done any body fat percentage checking or anything? You can probably tell from your clothes. Anyway, what goes up ALWAYS comes down in your case. You're doing a fabulous job!!! Enjoy your day!

Welcome to your son and his girlfriend... I am so impressed with your running. I tried running on the TM this morning at the gym but I feel a little self-conscious like people are looking at me so I only ran about 1 min. I know I could go much longer if I really tried. I so admire your progress and your spirit. Have a wonderful day, Vicky...

I was skipping around catching up reading today...question...where is this talk of meeting up and running a race in ATL? What route would you take to get there? And, are you also considering the Disney Half Marathon? Hmmmmm...Interesting thoughts. OMG did I just muse out loud?

Hi Vicki,
:wave1: you're doing great things for yourself
 ...and you're probably building alot of muscle with all that exercise... you might not be able to go as low as you want to in weight, but will have all the muscle tone and definition. That's wonderful that you had such an influence on your son and his g/f. I'm glad you're so happy.... is it the "Denise Austin stepper" you saw on sale? It's really great, all put together, small compact...I love it... when your husband sees it, you could just say "oh, I've had this thing awhile", or "this old thing"
:laugh5: I paid $100 for it.... it's well worth it... I actually enjoy doing it... go for it.. if you want to get it...although with all your running, when would you do the stepper? Are you going for the Olympics? You're an inspiration.... well the proof is in the pudding, yikes a food analogy
:nono2: look at the wonderful impact you've had on your son and his g/f, and so many others, including me, I remember, when I was really really really, did I say really
=D struggling, and lost.. how you were there cheering me on..... I am very grateful for that... you're a very sweet woman... have a beautiful day... Arlene

I think you are building muscle from all of the running. And the runner's training sounds great; I look forward to hearing all about it! I'm on the obsessive side, too, but strength in numbers! And big welcome to your family!!!

I am cheering you on with the running! I want my knee to get better so I can keep on trucking with, but I realize that I can't rush that sort of thing. Must listen to my body.
:(
I think it's awesome to know that you could do a 10K! Go for it!

Thanks for the push mom! I am so proud of you and your personal drive to make yourself better. I also have to have music when I'm on the bike, makes things go by faster and my brain isn't killing me about WHY AM I DOING THIS?!?!?!?!? I'll keep you up to date and thanks again.

kind of reminds me of a calvin & hobbes strip where calvin decides his life would be better if it had a laugh track, so he walks around with a tape recorder with one. Maybe your runs don't need a soundtrack.

I think it's great you've found something healthy that you like doing - apparently with your family, too. I'm don't know how well I'd do without music playing. Usually, I use music as a way to keep my brain occupied so it's not nagging at me. I'm not sure how wide your musical tastes are, but I find that there's some music that I just don't walk well too (I suspect it's not good running music, either). Something more dance-y works a lot better for me than something else. Audiobooks also work pretty well, if you can find one you can really get into. But, who knows, maybe you just work better with no audio.

welcome, aggies! i like it when people get their families to join !
:) re your weight: it looks like you are seeing a downward trend here, which is fantastic. repeat after me, you did not gain three pounds in three days ! our weights vary based on hydration levels, sodium intake, etc. my guess is that your reading of 151 was on a day when you were slightly dehydrated, and 154 was on a day that you were retaining a little water. have no fear, you're headed in the right direction . have you ever heard of The Google 15? It's an application you can add to your Igoogle page that tracks the moving average of your weight. In other words, it averages out your daily weights and shows you your "average" weight for the past week or two. It only works if you use it every day though . I find it useful to keep track of whether the average is upward or downward moving- it's sometimes hard to tell with all the noise of the big ups and down in between!!!
