Tuesday, Feb 13 2007 - Eating and Business Travel

I have about 15 minutes before my class starts up again and I just wanted to post of few thoughts ...
[Sunday, 2/11]
Eating well on business travel is extremely difficult, especially since the company reimburses me for my meals. The first night I was in Washington, D.C. we ate at the ESPN Zone. While I chose to have the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, I split an order of cheese fries with my co-worker, Vinnie and on top of that I ate the fries that came with my sandwich.
[Monday, 2/12]
The day started out well when I ate a small portion of scrambled eggs and some wheat toast with strawberry jam. However, for lunch, I went big (old habits coming back). I had battered chicken tenders, French fries and a piece of carrot cake for dessert. I was still full at dinner time so I decided to skip dinner and just hang out in my hotel room. I did get a little hungry around 7 pm so I ate the dark chocolate pretzel bark I stuffed in my suit case before leaving home. Last night, my wife (dawnnscott) was telling me about an article in the latest CK e-mail newsletter that was talking about the dangers of eating French fries. It was an eye opener for me and I vowed to do better the next day.
[Tuesday, 2/13]
I did well for breakfast; eating 2 pieces of wheat toast with a little butter and strawberry jam along with a bowl of kellogg's wheat bran complete cereal. I had an apple as my mid-morning snack. For lunch, I walked over to the Au Bon Pain next to our training site and got a yummy, Arizona chicken sandwich. It was a little high in fat, but overall not a bad choice. I have been doing well as it relates to what I have been drinking. I have been drinking water and unsweetened ice tea each day, so no calories there. Inside of our hotel there is a fitness room, so I am hoping to get in there this afternoon after class and before dinner. Dinner is a little scary though ... I think we are either going to the Hard Rock Cafe or the Cheesecake Factory. I know I can make good choices, I just have to hold my ground.
Any tips on how to stay on track during business travel? Much appreciated!
Well, I gotta run. Class is going to start in a minute.
Peace,
Scott

Hey Bro, Hope you are doing well! Just remember portion control and try to get to the exercise room or take a little walk. And just remember .... even if this is a bad week for eating, you can always start a fresh one when you get home
