View TLO's food & exercise for this day

I have an interesting dilemma...i actually can't eat enough!
I am supposed to have 2000 net calories a day, but rarely do i even reach 1000.
The issue is that i had gastric bypass in 2001 and even though it's been that long, i still can't eat very much at any one time. So...if i eat 3 meals plus 2 snacks, of good nutrient rich food there is no way to reach 2000.
my question is this...should i eat some empty calories to get me to the number? should i have some junk food and simply limit the amount?
this would go against the very nature of what i'm trying to do.
give me your thoughts, and thank you Brien for bringing it up...i've been thinking about it too.
i don't want my body to go into starvation mode and have everything shut down!!!

Okay this is totally just my opinion and so take it as that... I don't necessarily think empty calories are a good thing to consume BUT I do think that it is a good idea to still have things you enjoy. While I'm not getting any nutritional benefit from eating a daily treat (like a 100 calorie back or a mini warm delight)... I do get some, I guess you'd call it, mental satistifaction that I think will help me stick with it in the long run.

If I completely deprive myself of things I like, I'll feel, well deprived and eventually I'll get frustrated and give up and binge.

I also got some good advice from the forums on ways to get more healthy calories in (http://www.calorieking.com/community/forums/posts.php?forum_id=14&thread_id=204138) including eatting nuts, dairy, oil olive.

Tony and I have actually had a pretty good dialogue about this. (I'm afraid I'm stumped, too) -- but since several people have mentioned it: The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines state that the lowest recommended intake for women is 1200, and for men its 1800 calories. Below that, you risk burning your lean muscle mass.

hmmm... I don't know much about how to eat after that type of surgery, but I would guess try eating healthier options that maybe have more calories (like things with lots of protien and fiber). Or even try adding like a protien shake in or something (if you can't drink it all at once, drink it throughout the day). I don't know if that helps at all... :$ Good luck!!

I just re-read my comment! :look:

A pt that she was seeing, told her not to eat less than 1200 cals per day... I don't know that a dr ever told her anything but she was rapidly gaining and seemingly not eating that much more. Again, let me know what you find out. Thanks!

That really is an interesting dilemma! Any diet I have ever read has said neve go below 1200 a day....maybe you could get there just by eating a little more healthy oils and fiber....would be interested to know what a dr says!

Tony: that is an interesting position to be in.... My best friend was in the same situation. I think that a personal trainer she needed to get in a minimum of 1200 but I am not a doctor... Have you talked to any of your physicians about it? I would like to pass along to her any of the information that you find out! Keep at it! :)
