View TLO's food & exercise for this day
Hi Everybody, it's been 2 weeks on CK and i'm doing very well, i think. i've lost 17 pounds in those 2 weeks, which is wonderful, but i find myself falling into that trap of thinking that can go on forever. WRONG! it's slowing down and i can feel it. now is when i usually crash and burn, but not this time!!
let me ask all of you this, do you weigh yourselves everyday? i do, and i'm wondering if that is the right thing to do. for example, this weekend i did particularly well with exercise, water, calories, yet when i weighed this morning, no movement. in my head i understand that you can't show a loss everyday, but emotionally i get a little discouraged. should i stop weighing every day?
what do you think?

Something else - I do understand the need for some sort of daily affirmation that you're "on the right track". For me, I shifted away from the scale and focused instead on "the plan". Every day, I focus on eating the right things at the right time and exercising as often as possible. As the week progresses, I look at my charts and the numbers - and that's how I know if I'm doing well or not. If the scale isn't cooperating after a few weeks, I modify the plan! Easy!

Mm... I avoid the daily weigh, personally. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends losing no more than 2 lbs or 1% of your body weight per week, whichever is greater. This becomes fractions of a pound per day. Since you can gain and lose 2 lbs of water weight over the course of a few hours, a daily weigh-in becomes meaningless. If you're aiming for 2-4 lbs per week, even a weekly weigh-in is subject to some disappointment if you're holding on to water weight. A 2 week trend is really the best indicator of how things are going.

I think this is different for everyone and ultimately you'll have to see how it goes for you. Honestly, you can't always trust the number from the scale because there are lots of things that can influence besides just your true weight... the biggest thing is your water weight.... if you have too much sodium you'll have an increase because of water weight and if you drink you may be dehydrated the next morning and show a false loss.
Your comment that "emotionally I get a little discouraged" leads me to think you're not someone who should weigh everyday.... and honestly, I think most people fall into that category. I know for myself when I weighed everyday an unexpected loss results in me celebrating and a gain (expected or not) can make it hard to stay on track... so I'm better off once a week. Although I do occasionally pop on one or two other times... usually when I think I've gained to help me talk myself back into doing what I need to do to get back on track.

Great job on the loss. I am sure it will slow down and that's okay. Nothing wrong with that. It's actually the best way to go about it! I weigh daily usually. At one time I weighed up to 9 or 10 times a day. I usually do once a day but not always. I think you need to see how it affects you and your efforts. Keep on trucking.

This is the pot, calling the kettle black as they say, but definitely, while you're losing its better to weigh at the same time of day once a week.
I'm a pot because while I was losing, I really did only weigh in once a week, but once I got to maintenance I did every day. Since I've gained this bit back, I'm still an every-dayer, but I try not to let it get to me. And I only 'record' my weight as of once a week. If it impacting your mood and your progress I say let it go to once a week. (And you're doing FANTASTIC by the way!)
