CELAWLOR's Story

I have been fat, chubby, chunky, plump, overweight, obese, large, thick, tubby and round my whole life. I was brought into the world like that and I guess you can say I have been incredibly successful at staying true to my roots! I was able to get to my lowest adult weight of 250 when I was 20 by eating right and excercising a lot. I promptly became pregnant and gained all of my weight back, plus some, during and after my pregnancy.

In 2004 I married a vegetarian. I thought it would be easy to lose weight eating a vegetarian diet. Boy, was I wrong. Gaining weight while being a vegetarian really woke me up to the fact that I was clueless about eating right. My husband also gained weight after we married. We visited a nutritionist and discovered the right way to be vegetarian. We were doing so many things wrong.

So, armed with our new education, we decided to take it easy and slowly migrate to a healthy diet. One poor habit at a time was replaced by a healthier one. We made it a point to exercise regularly, but not cut out the goodies completely. Instead of keeping junk foods in the house, we would only have them occasionally while we were out. Everything was going well and we were feeling better and losing some of the wedding weight. Then came our move to Houston.

Houston is a hot, sticky part of the planet. To make matters worse, we moved from a nice new house in north Texas to a very small apartment when we first arrived. I hated being in the apartment, not to mention actually cooking and eating in it. My kitchen was the size of my closet in the house we moved out of. We got back into the horrible habit of eating out constantly and having junk food in the apartment. We were all miserable there. It was too hot and humid to have our regular walks; my son couldn't ride his bike safely in the apartment; and we got lazy and fatter.

We finally found a house and moved in November, 2005. We went back to having good foods in the house, quit eating out all the time, and started to get back into exercising. In February, we got a gym membership. I had always loved being at the gym, but my husband had never been before. He takes the spinning (cycling) class three times a week, I do my cardio workouts and weight training, and we both work on increasing our core strength together before his spinning classes.

When I weighed myself at the gym at the beginning of February, I had balooned up to 340 lbs--the heaviest I have ever known myself to weigh. I know I can lose weight, I love being in the gym, and we are getting our act together in the diet department. CK has some excellent resources available to make these very important changes in my life.

I want to be a positive role model for my son.
I want to be a healthy weight to have another child.
I want to live a long happy life with my husband.
I want to spoil my future grandchildren.
I want to live the life God has planned for me to the fullest.
I want to be able, for once in my adult life, to shop at a non fat-girl store.
I want to be able to wear my hair long because my face is no longer the shape of a basketball and it will look good on me. God gave me gorgeous curly hair!

With all that said, enjoy my daily blog!
