SRHCOOK's Story

I am 26 years old and have been struggling with my weight since freshmen year of college. Back then, I was thin and had food issues - I would eat 1/2 bagel with fat-free strawberry cream cheese a day...that is all I would eat. I ended up having to have regular counceling sessions and meetings with a dietitian who helped me realize that I was undereating because I was unhappy with my life. That summer, I decided to change my life by transferring to a school in another state to get a new start at life and really develop myself as an adult. That's when the overeating began. The cafeterias on campus did not serve healthy food and all people did was go to class, eat, study, eat, go downtown to eat, and (occasionally) sleep. I went from weighing 125 to weighing 155 in a matter of months and have maintained that weight ever since. At my highest weight, I was 161 and miserable.

I got married last June and since then have moved from Minnesota to South Carolina and am now moving to Illinois (2 moves in less than a year, not fun)! I am headed down the eating road I was on during freshman year of college and I fear that when the lack of eating passes, the binging will begin again. I have worked too hard for that to happen.

Someday, I hope to NOT have weight, appearance, and food at the center of my life.
