TJKROWIORZ's Story
Okay, here's my story. I started watching the last season of Biggest Loser (2007) and became intrigued by the commitment of the "players". By the end of the season I was inspired, sort of.. I signed up to get daily e-mails from Jillian Michaels and read them religiously. After a couple of months I decided to start practicing some of what I had been reading. (baby steps)
I decided that my first hurdle was to quit smoking. How would I ever be able to lose weight (maintain exercise without being able to breathe) if I didn't first quit smoking? I made an appointment with my Dr in April for support (Chantix). I then enlisted my husband to quit with me. On April 1, 2008 I smoked my last cigarette. On April 14th I saw my doctor but by then I had been smoke free for 2 weeks. I still filled my prescription and it sits on a shelf in my bedroom as a reminder. Of course the first thing he asked was how I felt about my weight :( After a brutally honest doctor's appointment I was referred to a nutritionist and ordered to have labs done. SCARY! After my appointment I went out and bought good "gym" shoes. (another baby step) It was another three weeks before I actually used them.
I saw my dietician on April 22. My first weigh in was 313 lbs. OUCH. I also got my lab results, most were surprisingly good but my triglicerides were high as was my blood pressure. She gave me great pointers and I started tracking my calories. I was eating an average of 3000+ calories a day and she took me down to 1800. Major challenge!
I went back to the nutritionist a month later and my blood pressure had dropped 10 points. AMAZING! (not smoking probably helped) I had also dropped 13 pounds. The next month I only dropped two pounds, but my calories had taken a hit as I adjusted to being on the road with soccer kids.
I have since joined a gym and try to walk 20 minutes at least 5 times a week, strength train at least three times a week and am still counting calories. I am on month three and struggle with my eating habits most days. But, I am trying and still losing, although slowly it's still a win in my book. It's never easy to make a major life change like weight loss, but I honestly think that doing it now gives me something else to focus on than having a cigarette. It's hard, but definately worth it.
I see the nutritionist again in two weeks - I hope I lose more by then!
OH and I and my hubby are still smoke free!
