Traditional creamy pasta dishes have oodles of fat and calories. The healthier Pasta with Creamy Mushroom Sauce uses fresh herbs and low-fat sour cream, Canadian bacon and less shell pasta.

If nonfat sour cream is available, you can use it instead of low-fat sour cream (calories 327, KJ 1369, fat 2 g, sat.fat 0 g, chol 11 g).

  • 2 slices Canadian bacon or links of lean turkey bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 4 flat mushrooms, sliced
  • 200 g low-fat sour cream
  • 3 cup shell pasta, cooked
  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 thick slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 flat mushrooms, sliced
  • 200 g sour cream (or heavy cream)
  • 4 cup shell pasta, cooked
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 tsp ground thyme

Directions:

RECIPE MAKEOVER:

Gently cook bacon, onion and garlic in a large saucepan until soft. Add mushrooms. Cook 3 minutes. Drain fat. Remove from heat. Add sour cream, pasta, pepper and thyme; combine. Stir in cooked pasta.

Serve hot in pasta bowls.
