Turkey chili with a touch of the unusual.
Best to start with smaller amount of hot sauce and increase with taste.
0.45 kg lean ground white turkey breast, fresh or frozen
1 onion, chopped
2 tsp olive oil
2 Tbsp chili powder
1 (12 oz.) can beer
3 (15.5 oz.) cans low-sodium kidney beans, rinsed
2 (20 oz.) cans low-sodium tomatoes, diced or whole
1 cup brown sugar, unpacked
1/2 cup molasses
1 Tbsp hot sauce (such as Crystal hot sauce), or to taste
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1 clove garlic, diced, or ¼ tsp. garlic powder
Over medium heat, sauté the turkey and onions in olive oil and cook until turkey is cooked through and onions are done.
Stir in the chili powder and beer. Add beans and tomatoes, stir. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally.
When turkey-bean mixture is done and cooking well, add brown sugar, molasses, vinegar, hot sauce and garlic. Bring to a boil, then turn down to low heat. Simmer for as long as you desire (for fuller flavor, the longer the better).
Cook as above. Can reheat in microwave.
Other lean meats can be substituted for ground white turkey breast.
Wine or non-alcoholic beer can replace regular beer. Mexican-style beans or additional tomato can replace kidney beans.
