Thursday, Jul 30 2020 - First Full Day - Not too Bad!

View KPEARSON's food & exercise for this day

Woke up in a particularly good mood this morning. So feeling positive that I'll do better today. For my first day yesterday, my eating wasn't where it needed to be, but it was definitely lower in calories than I've had previously, so I'm very proud of myself for that. I think the ranch dressing killed me though. LOL So I'm going to have to figure something else out to replace that. I mean I'm using less than I normally do but it still had way too many calories.

So far day 2 is going well. I already printed out my log and put it in my notebook, along with yesterday's blog. I want to see and track everything, including my feelings, day to day activities, etc.

Used my new food scale today, and it's great. Now I know exactly how much I'm eating, no more guessing. I even put a measuring cup next to the frig so I can measure out all the water I drink accurately as well. Some of my new medication, I have to make sure to drink enough water to keep from being dehydrated, so that part will be difficult for me. But I'm going to work hard on that.

So a question I have for anyone who can help. I like to make all my meals from scratch. I find it's a lot healthier and tastes a 1,000 times better. How do you get all the nutritional information for homemade meals? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for all the advice. That will help me with meal planning for sure. The one thing my diabetes Dr. is ok with is beef and not to be too concerned with fat. But I find, as you have mentioned, they are both full of calories. I have to eat certain things and often to keep my blood within range, and that's complicating things a little bit. I think it's just finding the balance that works all the way around for me and that's what I'm working on right now.

Good job!

=D Ranch dressing will kill ya one way or another =D.

I cook at home, primarily for lunches. I seem to skip dinner in lieu of a glass of wine and a small semi-healthy snack. This year I’ve cut down on the ‘dinner’ because I just haven’t’ felt like cooking it. I have a healthy protein breakfast and generally a green salad and chicken breast for lunch, followed by something sweet – because I just have to!! =D. I bring a designated amount of quarter sized cookies.

However, to answer your question; when I do cook:
I make chicken; grilled or baked - I know the breast is 120 calories and has no more than 2 g fat.

I make a green veggie: I know there are no real calories in that, more like it contains vitamins more than anything else. So that doesn't get logged in my head as part of that meal.

I may eat a fresh hamburger patty with cheese; no bun. I know that will be costly in the 'up to' 800 calories list. I know I shouldn't eat that but I need the iron sometimes. That said, beef is unsafe in the healthy eating category. But, I see it as iron and great protein source.

Fish; Fresh salmon will be in the 300 calories and will have 10g fat.

I guess, for me, if I'm not cooking the above, I am cooking unhealthy things. As in, those are the only healthy foods I like. Obviously there are many other good healthy food sources.

At the end of the day; know you’re eating clean and free of starches like pastas and potato's and bread. Stay off the sugar and you'll do great!!!
