A strange couple of weeks. I'm doing exactly the opposite of what I planned to be doing 'bout now. Instead of maintaining a level of physical activity and increasing calories, I've reduced my physical activity and maintained my weight-loss diet targets. Feeling out of sorts for about a week and then a week of wet weather has meant fewer trips to the park and no bike riding. I hauled my sorry self down to campus last night to attend a discussion on Slow Food and related issues. I went because Alice Waters was going to be there but, to my mind, she was eclipsed by Judy Wicks who I didn't know before last night. Wicks was wonderful and we will definitely stop at her White dog Cafe when we visit our nephew in Philly. And I ordered several copies of the cafe cookbook so I nailed down some holiday gifts too. I made a trip back to Kentucky about this time several years ago. We lived there from 1978 to 1983 and I got hooked on thoroughbred racing at a time when the money involved wasn't so obscene. Anyway, I made a stop at the Kentucky Horse Park and spent some time with John Henry. I also stopped at Three Chimneys Farm to see Seattle Slew on that trip. Two fine horses from another time, now gone.

This week is starting off as last week ended: poorly. I didn't go to the park yesterday and I doubt I will today because any movement causes my clothing to move against my skin and the current humidity just makes matters worse.

Somehow, somewhere, I came in contact with poison ivy and why I have it halfway around my midsection is an absolute mystery. Regardless, it's been the cherry on an otherwise less-than-lovely week.
