Quince

A strange couple of weeks. I'm doing exactly the opposite of what I planned to be doing 'bout now. Instead of maintaining a level of physical activity and increasing calories, I've reduced my physical activity and maintained my weight-loss diet targets. Feeling out of sorts for about a week and then a week of wet weather has meant fewer trips to the park and no bike riding. I should have compensated with yoga/Pilates but I didn't do much of that either. The coming week should be better; the...

Slow Food

Wednesday, October 10th 2007

I hauled my sorry self down to campus last night to attend a discussion on Slow Food and related issues. I went because Alice Waters was going to be there but, to my mind, she was eclipsed by Judy Wicks who I didn't know before last night. Wicks was wonderful and we will definitely stop at her White dog Cafe when we visit our nephew in Philly. And I ordered several copies of the cafe cookbook so I nailed down some holiday gifts too. Two fine horses from another time, now gone.

More rain last night but I'm hoping it will be dry enough to get to the park later. Putzing aro...

Open Water

Monday, October 8th 2007

This week is starting off as last week ended: poorly. I didn't go to the park yesterday and I doubt I will today because any movement causes my clothing to move against my skin and the current humidity just makes matters worse.

Since I'm already in such a funk I've been catching up on some of the news. I see this summer saw a record breaking loss of Arctic sea ice. I guess if Chris had made his voyage this summer he could have bypassed North American and made it to the East Indies. ...

Low

Sunday, October 7th 2007

Somehow, somewhere, I came in contact with poison ivy and why I have it halfway around my midsection is an absolute mystery. Regardless, it's been the cherry on an otherwise less-than-lovely week.

Unfortunately I managed one additional downer last night, a wedding at the zoo. We shouldn't have gone for several reasons but we're fond of the groom, the son of my husband's friend and we were looking forward to putting some faces to the names we've heard mentioned frequently over the years.
...
