Wednesday, Aug 6 2014 - To Weigh, or NOT to Weigh
View OLDARMYMED's food & exercise for this day
I am committed to weighing in once a week, on Saturday. There is nothing special about Saturday except I get to sleep in a bit before I hit the scale. Several mornings I have been tempted to run downstairs and weigh myself because my shirt seemed a bit baggier than usual or my belt buckle slipped into the next hole. I resist. I much prefer the greater difference a week makes than the smaller difference that a day can make. I derive considerably more motivation when the scale tells me I have dropped 2 or 3 pounds in a week than if it says I went down a few ounces since yesterday. This also removes the disappointment if the scale should happen to say I gained an ounce or two since yesterday - always a distinct possibility. A little water retention goes unnoticed at the weekly weigh-in but could shake my faith if I was on a daily weigh-in routine. Hey, whatever works - WORKS!!

I do weigh daily but I use it as a control, I know if it's up a few ounces I have to look back at yesterday's sodium and water and adjust accordingly. It helps me. Yeah sometimes it's a pain in the a$$ and disappointing but but it helps more than it hurts. Do what works for you :-)

I don't own a scale which has worked for me when I am trying to lose weight and against me when I am trying to maintain. I have two scale options - at my rowing studio in Atlanta (my official scale and I am only there on Mon and Tue) at my Mom's (I am only there on Sun). This keeps me from weighing more than 1x per week. I am out of town this week so it will be 2 weeks before I get to weigh in. That is both good and bad - if I lose 1lb per week I am happy but if I lose less than 2 lbs in a 2 week period it frustrates me.
