View THEFATCHICK's food & exercise for this day

The grand baby is coming in 30 minutes and I NEED to see him, he is medicine for my soul. He is feeling a little better and I'm taking him to the doctor for a second follow up since he was diagnosed with pnemonia. The pediatrician said the hospital was wrong and it was bronchitis...we are not doctors, so we will never know, as long as he is doing better that's all that matters. I'm feeling better myself today, I can move without getting out of breath which is a nice change.

And oh yes you know has life has a way of testing you??? Well, as if I didn't already have enough to deal with I was served (in person by a processor) last night civil action papers...my siblings and I are being sued by my moms reverse mortgage company for $470,500, they are petitioning to add us to her mortgage. I'm so pissed, certain family members who know who they are borrowed tens of thousands of dollars from my mother over the years and she used the reverse mortgage but they never had the means to pay her back. Now the rest of us are left to pick up the pieces. My one sister is the executor and has the house up for sale as the bank requested but the one offer fell through because the real estate agent listed the septic, propane and well water incorrectly as city sewer, gas and city water.

I have to fill out some kind of paperwork that I have to get from the superior court clerk, pay $135 filing fee and probably will need to retain a lawyer. I'm so mad!!!!!! Somehow I was served first, none of my siblings were served as of last night, but we are all listed as defendants. What makes this even worse is that the nursing home and moms creditors have put Leins on the house so the house has to sell for more than the worth to pay those things off. My older sister was handling all my moms medical paperwork (medicaid medical and financial, and Medicare) she signed papers when mom was changing nursing homes and admitted never even reading the papers.

I don't get it, others made bad decisions, took advantage of a woman who family meant everything to, who would literally give you the shirt off her back. When I was 5 or 6 she packed up some gently used clothes of my dads; jackets, shoes, other warm clothing, a blanket, new pillow and food, soup and hot chocolate and we went into the car and drove up and down the main road in town looking for the local homeless man and she gave these gifts to him and taught me about humanity and what real charity is...giving if the heart. That's who she was.

It burns me so badly that family took advantage of that and now those who stood on our own through the tough times, lived within our means and were responsible are dealing with this now. My sister who is the executor told us if the house didn't sell they would take it and she would sign it over but this is crazy it actually says they are petitioning to add us as responsible to the mortgage.

I need this day with my grandson, he makes everything melt away while I have him.👶❤️

I feel like life is constantly testing me, preparing me for something bigger and challenging to come and it knocked on my door last night. 😞

I reiterate what Donzi said. You might want to check with a lawyer to be sure but they tried something like that on one of my uncles when his daughter died. They will bully you and push you around just because they can.

Glad the baby is starting to feel better.

my heart goes out to you Cindy:love:
that is so much to deal with!!, and i agree with everything Donzi said!!
do your research don't get caught up in others blame game and trying to use you to ease their own guilt for over stepping over their bounds,
Hold on tight to your loving memories of your Mom and all her goodness, don't let this taint that!!!!

Here's a link. I found several websites saying essentially the same thing:

Unless of course you co-signed the reverse mortgage. Then of course you could be held liable because your name is on it.

I'd be angry over that too!

I would definitely check with a lawyer but I don't think *think* that inheritors of an estate can be held liable for the debt. I *think* that whatever is left in the estate can be seized to pay for debt but that's it. I wouldn't sign anything until talking to someone knowledgeable. My heart goes out to you on this one. People who live beyond what they can afford and then expect others to pay make me very angry and unfortunately it's an epidemic that seems to be growing.
