Thursday, Feb 9 2012 - Eat Smarter
View JEN.OLSEN's food & exercise for this day
This week I am learning to eat smarter. I know that's the premise of Weight Watchers - don't eat less, eat smarter. Well, I'm learning! One of the things I've observed is that diet foods are very often not worth it. I can eat that sugar-free jello or that low-fat Atkins bar, but they just don't do the job. I want more than that one little cup of jello or that teeny-tiny bar. I want substance. So, I'm learning to make hearty substitutions for the high-fat, high-calorie foods that I love. Yummy Greek yogurt with honey and fruit may pack a higher calorie punch, but it also provides lots of protein and helps me feel satisfied. I get to enjoy every bite, knowing that I am treating my body to a nutritious snack. A third cup of delicious trail mix with healthy nuts, dark chocolate pieces, and sweet raisins. Once again, I get to enjoy each bite knowing that I am treating my body to nutritious, whole foods.
The lessons come slowly. But then, I don't have to learn them all today. The neat thing about learning to be healthy is that all of the mistakes move me closer to my goal!
