Wednesday, Aug 1 2007 - It's been a year

Today is a year since I started with CK. I am 65 pounds lighter (goal was 75 but did not hit it) and in better shape. I exercise in one form or another almost every day. Lost 10-12 inches from my waist.
I approached this as a lifestyle change not a diet. If there is something I want I make a decision if I want to eat it or not. I don't deprive myself. Just reading a label can change your mind (I'm look at you Ben & Jerry

). Making better choices comes more naturally now. Carrots instead of chips. Chicken/Turkey rather than steak or ribs. Small sizes when having the steak or ribs.
Biking or walking rather than driving for small local errands. Daily lunchtime walk (1/2 to 3/4 hour) rain, shine or snow.
Never got discouraged for not hitting my goal. It was just a number to work towards. Based on 1.5 pounds per week.
Reasons I may not have hit it (all in the last couple of months):
Las Vegas conference (too much tempting snacks between sessions, not enough fruit and veggies and only exercised one day)
Bermuda Cruise (drinks and food, but could have done a lot worse. Desserts were the problem)
Some general slacking when wife was away (Doritos with dinner (3 oz. a night) and ice cream every night for a few days (1.75 quarts in 3 days, 1/2 gallons aren't always the size anymore at the store).
Overall a good year.
