Monday, May 4 2009 - What a nice (not) surprise!

View YEWTREE's food & exercise for this day

Oh, what a thrill! I stepped on the scale Saturday morning, thinking positively (198, 198, 198), knowing full well that I ate and exercised like +2 not -1. But -- ta-da -- I weighed 198.5. Oh, glory be, and praises to all Weight Loss Guardian Angels!!!

Sunday is my "real" weigh-in day. I don't know why I can go all week and stay off the scale, but there's something about Saturday morning, weigh-in day getting so close and all, that I can't resist a little preview. So Sunday -- perfect weigh-in morning: nekkid, evacuated, hungry -- ta-da, 198.3!!! Oh, oh, it was true, I did, I did lose weight last week! Even with being naughty!

No. Sigh. It wasn't true. Sigh.

I then prepared for my "official" weigh-in. Make sure nothing is preventing me from standing tall, nothing is preventing the scale from weighing true. That is, I get everything out of the way so there's just me and my scale. My new glass WW scale. High tech, digital, little of it actually sitting on the floor (how does this thing work anyway?) Previously, I had pulled the scale back to the edge of the bathroom rug to make space around myself when on the scale. Now, oh, look at that, the back side of the scale has a little rim that actually does sit on the floor. I'd pulled the scale to the rug so that the glass top was kinda over the rug. So that the little floor-sitting rim was ever so slightly elevated from the floor. Uh-oh.

Then, getting the rug away from the scale, ascertaining that the scale was firmly on the floor surface and nothing touching it and making sure nothing was touching me, I stepped on for the official weigh-in: 199.5. Up .2 lb. UP. I had gained weight, as well I should have last week. Oh, duh.

I know I should be grateful, and I am grateful, that the gain was .2 and not 2 full pounds. But still, I've seen 198, the next pound down, and now, like Moses, I am only standing on the mountaintop looking at the Promised Land -- so near and yet so far away.
