Wednesday, Jun 24 2009 - Beck Diet Solution Day 3

View YEWTREE's food & exercise for this day

I had glanced at the first page of Day 3 some time ago, and I've been dreading arriving at this day because I eat everywhere other than the dining table/kitchen table. But reading it properly today, I see that this day's reprogramming is TO NOT EAT STANDING UP. That's hardly my problem, I think, though I did check 4 out of 6 of the ways one can eat standing up: I take all the free samples they're giving out at the grocery store; I taste food as I prepare meals; I eat bits of this and that as I clear the table; and I take a piece from a candy jar or plate in my path as I go through a day. However, I don't think these are too bad: I don't get to free sample day at stores very often; I really taste foods I'm preparing, it's not that I'm nibbling right up until the meal is ready (unless Husband or Son is making french fries, of course, in which case I do well to not be in the kitchen!); I don't clear the table often anymore as Son has taken this chore on most of the time (IF there's a table to clear!); and I'm not often in an environment where people are profferring goodies. And when my meal is ready I do not stand up to eat it!

It's where I sit to eat that is my problem. I eat in front of the TV or with a book or at the computer. Eating is not entertainment enough, but something else must go with it to completely use the time up. No wonder I don't know when it's time to stop eating, I haven't even realized that I'm eating!

Knowing that this subject was coming up in Beck, even if it is not quite the subject I thought it was going to be, has made me think more about my eating when I'm eating. I had a ham sandwich for lunch yesterday, and I noticed that I barely was aware of the pleasure of ham sandwich as I sat watching The Closer on DVR. I can almost picture what eating at table woudl be like as I watch each mouthful go onto that fork, as I appreciate the beauty of my full plate and the process of it emptying. This is going to be good, a pleasant experience, a new lease on life!

However, I just finished my breakfast -- here at the computer. Alas, I'm easily talking myself out of actually starting this new habit. I'm going to start with dinners ....

Tune in to the continuing saga of Yvonne and her Food -- can she change her habits, can she change her mind, will she succeed at going down down down on the scale of fat numbers????? Tune in tomorrow!

I, too was on day 3 yesterday and slogged my way through EVERY CHECK MARK on that page. Therefore, I decided to buy myself a HUGE bracelet that get's in my way, and is there as a reminder that I have to SIT when I eat, and not pick off HUBBY'S plate. He is going to eat at the other end of the table (6 feet away) from me. It worked this morning - and I am full full full - and don't want anything else - problem is ----- that was at 5:30 as I was up at 3:00 due to the birds singing joyfully. Therefore, I will be eating a SNACK - where am I going to eat it? Sitting at the table with full service and a napkin. 1 orange and 1/2 banana, or strawberries and blueberries as I watch the hummingbirds outside. I will use a knife and fork and enjoy each bite as I put my untensils down. Ok - this will get a little old. I don't want to wash that many placemats or table clothes. Hmmmmm - significant sabotaging thought? Ok leave the dirty one on the table for Lunch - ok - got it. HAGD - Kel :rock1:
