Thursday, Jan 12 2012 - One extra bowl of soup.

I've had so much success on this program. I'm down about 13lbs, and have stuck to a strict workout regimen - going to the gym 6 days a week, running at 3 miles + lifting weights each visit.

Yesterday was basically a success, except for last night, I had an extra bowl of weight-loss soup. Big - deal, right? Well, it was when I stepped on the scale this AM.

I was counting on this day to get me closer to my end-of-week goal, but it didn't happen.

I'm still harboring fears from my previous attempts at losing weight:

1) Really, anybody can lose 10-15lbs at first. Now, comes the impossible part - the next 20lbs.

2) My body just doesn't want to give-up fat

3) By reducing my caloric intake, I am screwing-up my metabolism even further, so that if I do ever eat just a bit more, my weight will skyrocket.

4) This is all fun-and-games, but eventually, I will be back to where I started, possibly with a vengeance.

I'm hoping I can overcome these emotional obstacles, and stick with the program!

Hi Dovid,
It sounds kind of hokey, but it's true..."What the mind believes, the body achieves." I had never been able to get past 215 until I learned that and took it to heart. If you keep telling yourself 1-4 from your list, it WILL become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Try re-writing your list and repeating it whenever you can. Something like this;
1 - Imagine how you will look, fell, and what you'll be able to do when WHEN the next 20 Lbs is burned off.
2 - My body will burn fat for fuel if I am following a thoughtful and reasonable plan
3 - I will always make sure I get enough calories, eaten over six meals a day, balancing carbs, proteins, and fats, and eating the right foods at the right times.
4 - I will know that once I reach my desired weight, the journey is just beginning. That is the time when I most closely need to monitor my nutrition and exercise.

Are you watching sodium? If I overdo sodium by as little as 800 mg in a day, I will gain at least a Lb of water weight that takes me several days to remove. PS. Soup often has a LOT of sodium.

I've learned that this process is even more of a mental game than a physical one. You CAN do this. Good luck!

I am right where you are at too. The question of....what comes "after". Trying not to think about it right now, just keeping on, keeping on, as they say. I too am eating the low-cal soup. I don't know what recipe you have but I have the one from Weight Watchers. I thought it was terrible when I first made it but then when I added a little salt, it got much better. And BTW, you ate that bowl of soup likely because your body needed it. It's OK to go up in calories, I think, just to give your body a break.
