B"H

I've been posting all over CalorieKing blogs about the benefits of resistance training over cardio.

I wish I could take my own advice.

I have a confession to make: I love to run.

I don't know why exactly -

-it hurts
-it makes me sweat like a shaggy dog on a hot summer's day
-it hurts
-it is painful
-I dread the pre-run feelings

But, there is something so wonderful about finishing that run - all huffing & puffing, beating your best time, feeling so alive.

For now, I am losing weight, getting faster, and feeling better - so I will continue.

Perhaps when I get down a few more pounds, I will slowly shift over to more weight training.

I'd love to run a 5K or a 10K(!), but I am nervous.

Any advice?

Hi Dovid,
I know what you mean. I enjoy my morning walks with the dogs, and though they are not prescribed in the C.F.D, I'm not willing to give them up.
You would probably want to add calories to partially replace what you burn with the aerobic training, and keep up the strength training so that you don't lose muscle mass. (I wish Jim Karas had another program for those looking at starting towards race competition)
I do inline skate marathoning, biking, and a 5K on Thanksgiving. I do not plan to give up that training. There's nothing like setting all all those personal bests as you start training!
A marathoning friend told me that if you can run 70 - 80 percent of your race distance while you are training, that you would be able to finish.
Best of luck!
