Wednesday, Oct 20 2010 - Excuses, excuses, excuses
View HALE612's food & exercise for this day
So I just had a co-worker come to my desk, pull up a chair and say "what are you taking?"
I ask what she meant and she said that she had noticed that I had lost some weight and wanted to know what pill I was using to do that. Instead of being completely offended I tried to explain to her that I was using Calorie King to record everything I ate and I am working out pretty hard. She then started in on the litany of excuses as to why this very simple method would not work for her...her husband is a sweet-aholic, she doesn't have the time to measure everything she puts in her mouth, she's a "great cook" but all the food she prefers is high-fat, high carb junk, blah, blah, blah.
I tried to be very encouraging to her. I tried to explain that once you get into a routine it really doesn't take as much time as you would imagine. I told her how much better I already felt and how much more energy I have...but that hasn't come without sacrifice. She just came back with more excuses. I'm sure my eyes glazed over because there is only so much excuse making I can take!!! After she left I shared this thought with another co-worker that is also working hard to make positive changes "when you want to make excuses more than you want to make positive changes...all you are going to end-up with is a lot of excuses".
As for my personal take-away I've decided to be very happy that someone noticed that I'm losing weight.
Strong body, strong mind.

YAY for someone noticing! That feels good huh? I got a haircut earlier this week and they noticed my loss at the beauty shop. Sort of validates your hard work, huh?
:)
Get used to that excuse story. I hear that all the time. Esp. with folks talking about execise and how they don't have time to do it. That crap falls on deaf ears to me-- and you know why! If I can make time, anyone can.
We make time and effort to do that which is important to us. As for you- look at how well you are doing! You are the cleanest eater I know. From the worst to the best. You get a gold star in my book! Keep up the GREAT work!

Congrats on your progress, Stacey. It does seem like some people just can't seem to wrap their head around the whole concept of eating healthy and doing the work necessary to make positive changes.

Excuses seem so valid when you're making them though. She just hasn't made that breakthrough yet. Congrats on the noticeable weight loss! Thats great!
